Got there and started to warm up about 20mins before my time, Hattie was very excited and pulling like a train. There was 3 fallers so things got held up and I didn't start till 40mins after my time by which time Hattie was bored and asleep and I was a nervous wreak.
I had to give her a smack to wake her up for the first fence which she popped over and the 2nd, she jumped down the steps like a pro and flew through the water at 4, popped 5 and galloped over 6, which I was worried about as it had a ditch on the other side. It was about this time I stopped breathing. We flew over the ditch and hedge at 7 and galloped into the timed section over 8 and the double at 9, galloped through the chicane and as we took off for fence 11, I started to choke and cough down Hattie's shoulder. I slowed her down and promptly threw up, so retired. I guess a mixture of nerves from the hold up and the fact I forgot to breath, my body decided it couldn't cope anymore.
But never mind at least now I know she can jump that height and do steps. A lady from the control tower came running out asking if I wanted the ambulance, I was still coughing at this point, she thought I was having an asthma attack. I declined saying I would be OK in a min, which I was. Dad came galloping over anyway, as the commentary was down so all they heard was I had retired so he thought Hattie was hurt.
Video of the steps and the following fences (some which are behind trees) You can just about see me, the white blob.

Oh god I hope you're feeling better now? And very well done on the steps looked good on the video

I felt fine as soon as I stopped and got my breath back. I was highly embarressed as my friend had come down to watch me. Thank you, Hattie knew exactly what she was doing.

Which course were you at? That was unfortunate to be held up but it happens. At least you made it over half way - are you going to have another outing soon?

It was at West Wilts. I don't have anymore hunter trials till next year, but will hopefully take her hunting at some point.

you shouldn't be embarresed, think of me last week sat on a paralell fence leg over each pole with bum suspended between the poles couple of inches over the water tray - two friends came for the day and were watching, now that's embarressing

I too forget to breathe when concentrating so instructor gets me to sing or as cantering along I go 1 2 3, 1 2 3 in time to the canter and it does help as I ran out of breathe at my first HT before the 5th fence

Lol, I think the face of the photographer said it all really. Luckily I don't think she took a pic of me being sick.

oh poor you, i know how you feel though, i took h to his first Ht yesterday and also felt like being sick, i thinkg alot is lack of breathing, i really have to make myself take deep breaths then i'm ok. well done for trying though and the next will be easier-

OMG!! well at least your ok and you know Hattie can do height - I get really bad nerves and forget to breathe, so to help i talk to my horse and then you have to breathe, but folks here lots of GOOD BOYS!
