hunter trials?

Tempted to take my mare to a local hunter trials comp in a few weeks.
I took here to the same course of xc jumps on friday.
She is only 5 and it will be my first time too, please can someone tell me what to expect?
Also is it xc wear? if there are gates to do can you dismount or do they have to be tackled on horse-back?

It's just a course of xc jumps, no gates or other obstacles to go through, it is like a sj course really. At lower levels it is usually done on "optimum time" which should be a good hunting canter (or as I like to call it- bloody fast).

It should be xc dress, probably back protectors and skull caps will be needed. Why not try to get a friend to go too? There are usually pairs classes and you could get a lead if your youngster needs one? Best of luck though- they are soooo fun!
