Ok i have not done one of these for about 15years and i have just entered in one for the 1st April

My question is . . . What the hell do i wear????

Can i just wear normal clothes or does it have to be proper XC stuff?? And can i wear coloured jods or do they have to be white/cream??

Also is a body protecter compulsory?? I dont have one so will have to borrow one if it is.

This probably sounds so dumb but i only 'do' SJ

Body protector and Kite marked crash hat is usually compulsory in hunter trials.

Any colour jodphurs and any colour jumper and hat silk is fine.

Thought the BP may be, have only ever ridden in one once and that was years ago

Mind you i am probably gonna need it LOL.

Was gonna wear black jods though if i weas allowed coz i only have white ones for SJ and dont really wanna get them caked in mud and ruined.

Her colours are green and black so was gonna wear a green top with black jods and she has green numnah and green and black boots. Does that sound ok do you think??

well, usually the dress code can either be - Full Hunting gear or Full XC gear.

You will need a BP and Hat - you may not be allowed to wear your hat if it has air vents in it - as if you fall off, things can go inside the hat !!

Cream Jods / Sweatshirt. I've not seen anyone in black jodhs do one before but maybe you can.

Bx

The only one i did (last year !)....BP was compulsory, as was medical card. I wore my Ventair SJ'ing hat though, and just a rugby shirt and (i think !) khaki breeches

You'll need a hat without a peak or vents, body protector and a medical card. Think any colour jods are fine but beige/white best. Any colour top. Any colour numnah.

Damn didn't wanna wear my white jods coz i know their gonna get caked and i am not going out to buy cream ones just for one show. I know tight ar*e ha ha!!

Was gonna wear my charles owen jockey skull hat, is that ok??

My GPA has vents so probably wont be allowed then!!

ETS just see post that says skull hat will be fine

A jockey skull is fine....i just wore my Ventair because i wasn't going to buy a skull cap for one day. Well, okay i bought the BP for one day....but that's a whole other waste of money lol!

It depends on who is running the comp as to what rules will be in place. Mine was a local RC thing and so it was done under RC rules. A ventair hat has the relevant kite marks and so was deemed satisfactory. They didn't care about vents or peaks tbh

I'm not sure why some people are fussing over the cream/beige jods.

I'm sure they do look nicer but I feel that black jods with your colours would equally look nice and as you say won't ruin your white ones.

After all, I have seen some foreign riders (Italians I think) ride in coloured jods in the Olympics in the 3DE.

I agree...i really wouldn't be stressing...it's a local event and is supposed to be a bit of fun for the horse and rider

It doesn't really matter what you wear so long as you are safe

This is a hunter trial. Traditionally you should only wear full hunting attire obviously times have changed so things have been relaxed but it really does look smarter.

I was doing HT's 30 years ago or more....and have never worn hunting dress...always x-c colours and a skull cap with silk
tongue.gif

I wore black jods to my HT (pictured in siggy) lots of people had odd coloured jods on to go with their colours ie light blue, khaki etc.
That said this was only a local HT... I did the same - didnt want to snag and ruin my best cream jods!!

For low key type xc i wear my navy jod, purple and black stars and for poshers venues/ bigger comps i wear cream jods.

Wouldnt worry too much about job colour for low key esp if you have to buy a body protector.

Dark jods can look ok as long as the rest of you looks smart...please excuse the hair i lost my hair band.

If this is the Speedgate one then you really wont need white/beige jods. I have been around the course in burgundy and green ones. Last time I did it they were not insisting on Medical cards either, I just said that my next of kin was at the show so pointless calling my home!

BP is necessary though.

Thanks SS1, yes it ist he SG one.

Glad i can wear my black jods
smile.gif
Really didn't want to ruin my white ones as they are new LOL

Are you going??

Possibly going to do the pairs but waiting for my friend to get back to me. This is going to be my BE season and was supposed to be doing Munstead but the entries have closed and SG was an after thought.

Which classes are you doing?

Only doing the 2'6 as it will be her first time round XC ever!!! Doing the pairs so i have a more experienced horse to lead.

What classes are you doing if you go??

Depend whose running it, over here (Ireland) the hunts run hunter trials and some of them esp down the country are completely mad and pretty much anything goes- jeans, hats that look about 20 years old, any sort of tack (I once saw a horse being ridden in a headcollar with a bit tied on with baler twine and a leadrope for reins!!) and usually no body protectors!! However if they are properly run its usually compulsory to wear skull cap up to correct standard, level 3 body protector, stock and medi band. Not to be negative but I once asked about the colour of johds and was told the light coloured jodhs are recommended so that ambulance crew can see blood easier if you have a fall!!

OMG how bad is that!!! Cant believe the bit and bailer twine
shocked.gif
I bet there are loads of accidents!!! Glad its not like that over here.

Very good point about being able to see the blood on light colours but surely then that would apply to the top half of you as well??

well seeing as its on the doorstep i will be there!

I really do think black would be fine! its only RC level, i saw many people at the sevenoaks RC HT @ redlands with all sorts of colours on.

i'm really looking forward to it im going to do the lickle class on my own as its only my 2nd hunter trial and the first one (pairs at redlands) didnt exactly go to plan lol

i just hope it doesnt rian too much kelly!! or it will be cancelled. they have shut some of the jumps etc off in preparation for it so hopefully ground will be good
