Hi all,

Looking to replace my old Hunter wellies. Are the new ones (I think now made in China) really as bad a some people make out?

Thank you.

I bought a pair 3 years ago, worn them most days and they are still going strong

No they are OK but they don't last nearly as long as they used too. I wear mine nearly all day every day and they are lasting just short of 12 months.

My first pair lasted me donkey years...the last pair were bought in May and now leak and the heel is non existant. As it's been summer they haven't been used for mucking out, just general yard stuff...... I was advised by the company I got them from that they were now only "for fashion" , because I wanted brown wellies (I know am sad!) I ignored their advice....have just ordered myself a pair of the Ariats that they now do in black

fingers crossed they last longer

Mine have lasted fine but they do have a year garuntee so as long as you dont ride in them, take them back to the shop if they dont last the year.

they are not as strong as the used to be. the rubber seems thinner than the ones i bought last year. i have gone for the neoprene toggi wellies this year. very comfy.

Oh they're made in a new place! I wondered why people complain about them now and call them townie wellies! I've had the same pair for over 10 years and they're still going strong!

My first pair were fantastic. Lasted nearly 5 years hard labour. I bought a second pair on the strength of this and within 6 months they were leaking quite badly. I bought some of those neoprene mudsummat or other and they are ok.

I have rrally gone off them, my last pair was 15 years ago, and thy were lasting around 6 mths, I now have le chameau, only bought one pair in 15 years

My old ones lasted 3yrs, the ones I got 9 months ago lasted 3 months before going into holes, and wearing through the sole! I wasn't very happy, esp when i couldnt replace them due to somebody throwing them away because they were so holey, thinking I didn't want them! So I now hav a pair of muck boots that 6 months later are still going strong, so hopefully should last the winter!

I had a pair quite some years ago, loved them very much but looking at them now they seem much thinner and not as well made as they used to be, Hunter wellies are made for the countryside so surely they should last the job they are bought for?
Why buy hunter's for fashion? would someone not be better off buying some from a high street shop? I dont get it?

I wont buy another pair, my last pair of MH boots also wore out very quickly - about a year, after my original ones did 5 years of day in day out wear...you pay a lot of money for these so you expect them to be fit for job.

Many thanks for your replies. I don't think I will be buying some new ones! It's a shame they are not made as they used to be.

Will have to have a think on what to buy next.

Thanks again.

Ive bought two pairs in two years. The foot of the boots have been fine and soles (no leaks) but the heels just dont seem to last. I will hold out until the current holey heels start to leak (credit crunch as it is) before looking for a different make to replace them. Daughter's Muckers still going strong after 2 years and she is heavy on her footwear.

Yes I had bad experiences with joules wellies, I got through 2 pairs in one winter!!!! (ridiculous!!) I looked at getting the hunters but was advised against them, I bought the toggi ladies wanderers, they've so far (1 year!!) been great....

I bought some at the beginning of last winter and they started to leak within 5 months , i cant see where they are leaking from. There are no splits or loose seals its very confusing. : )

I had an original pair. Lasted forever and resisted pitchforks! Had four pairs of the new ones for three of us in one year - will never buy another pair of Hunters

They refused to refund on Daughter's and she'd worn them a total of about six weeks out of the year - they leaked and the heels went; don't have a problem with her other footwear.

my last pair had 15 years of continuous use and cost £15 from Lowther Show.
Bought a Musto jacket at the same time £99 I think and still going strong, will cost £275 to replace it.
Newest pair of Hunters won't last more than 1 and were supposed to be a bargin at £40.
Not much seems to be as good as it used to be

Mine also leaked from early on and I couldn't find where the water was coming from. In wet weather one of the heels would squelch as I walked, it must have had a hole in somewhere. I sent them back after they split, after maybe six months of wear (can't remember exactly.)

yeah mines lasted about six months over the summer! ive now got ariat wellies and i love them four months and going good so far

and more comfy than hunters

My mum has always had Hunters, only had about 2 pairs in the last 30 years! So I bought some earlier this year, and they are already starting to split, mainly around the top of the foot, probably from driving. I've got some long riding Muck boots that are much better, really strong and warm, but not good for summer

Too warm!!

Yep, had two pairs in the last year or two and they are just crap! Actually was going to try them one last time, but after this thread - No Way. I will head for something else (probably something cheap) But it's just stupid really, surely their sales must drop and they will have to do something about it.

Does anyone know whether the joules shoe type wellies are any good?? Am going to get a pair for dog walking and wondered if these last more than a week or so?

x

Was told last week that the rubber isn't as good as the old one's so have bought myself a 1st pair of Cheamue (sorry can't spell !) they are like slippers so worth a little extra .
