I got a pair of Hunters about...4 years ago? They were about 45 quid, dark purple, just the classic design.

Now though, i refuse to get another pair, 75 quid!!! I have switched to Joules wellies, really like them.

But it's annoying that Hunters have gone up so much becasue anti-mud people have suddenly decided to wear them.

Anyone else switched welly brand from Hunter?

Yes because they're rubbish, bought a pair about 6 years ago and they didn't last 6 months, and that was during summer!

Bargepoled permanently now!

Ah, i have to say mine lasted about 2.5 years, but i know some people who bought a pair and they lasted not even 6 months!

The quality of hunters has really gone downhill in the last few years.

Good luck with your Joules wellies, I've found them terrible ;)

I thought they would be rubbish, as years ago i bought a pair of the thinner ones and they were not that good, but this time i bought a pair of the heavier duty ones and ive had them about 8 month now, still going strong!
:)

Like muck boots and cheapo 3/4 wellies £10 from Sandon saddlery!! Hooray!

I dont get that silly buckle on hunters and they had fall apart reviews when I did look at them??? Fashion?

I "upgraded" to the Hunter Balmorals, and haven't had a problem. They aren't that much more expensive than the classic ones, and much better made.

I stopped buying Hunter many years ago now, when they were sold and the quality went. Ive not had the balmorals though, I did look at them once but with the general quality being so poor now Ive been too wary.
They are, imo, festival/fashion boots now, not really for us horsey types.
Joules are complete rubbish as well, in my experience.

Im pretty much left with the mega expensive brands to try now, nothing else has done the job, (apart from some horrible looking little cheap ones I got from a DIY shop a gazillion years ago :D They are still in one piece but arent that comfy)

I won't buy Hunters any more because of the terrible quality. My first pair lasted under a year before they split, and the next pair 15 months. The last pair were barely worn as we had hardly any rain,so I was doubly annoyed that they still split all over the place.

I haven't had a pair of boots that have lasted long at all! Have tried hunters, joules, muck boot company, woof wear, and various cheap non-branded from loads of shops. :( if anyone knows of any boots under £100 that last at least a year, let me know! :(

ive found that homebase wellies are the best! they're cheap and not "pretty" but do the job, had them over a year now and still going strong :D

Le Chameau wellies are the best quality, but even their cheapest ones are pretty pricey! However I always stick by the saying of "you buy cheap, you buy twice!"

In TK Max near me they had some Hunter Wellies for £45.00, they were the black shiney ones, they also had some of the black snake skin ones but I did not look at how much they were. I did wonder how durable they would be as they were made for the fashion market and not the mud.

Doesnt always work out like that though, just because something cost a lot doesnt mean its good. If only it were that simple. Like my DIY shop wellies for under a tenner, practically indestructable, whereas Ive paid lots for 'better' brand wellies and theyve lasted a few months at most.

Old hunters (I.e 10 years ago or more) were brilliant durable boots. Now however they definitely arent worth the money! They've turned into a fashion item- not to be worn as wellies! And subsequently they've whacked the prices up too. I'm afraid the quality of Joules is just as poor, but they do look pretty I'll admit that.

I bought barbour wellies,a size big didnt realise at the time so think they were mens size 7 but rthey lasted 10 years before heel cracks, just replaced with hunter that I got with daughters student discount, they are fine so far

When i was looking for new boots i heard that hunter moved their manufacturing out of the UK, which would explain the dip in quality. (sorry if this is old news!:p)

I have Aigles now and absolutely love them!! They have a really deep tread and didnt need any walking in, comfiest boots i've had in a llooong time :)

My Hunters were a 13th birthday present and I threw them away 3 years ago as they finally died just before my 32nd birthday! This pair came from the Gates Factory in Scotland when the brand was a real quality product and they endured nearly 20 winters of horses, mud, dogs and general abuse. They are now made abroad (China I believe), as others have said, basically for the fashion market and are cheap imitations of the original product at vastly inflated prices! I've tried a few different makes since the demise of my lovely Hunters and none have lasted. I am now wearing a pair of boots I bought for £20 from Brantano in the mens section (their mens sizes go down to a 6) and they are fabulous and a really flattering fit!

Another vote for Hunter Balmorals - they are a more agricultural version, rather than the traditional style which are useless now.

I wear a cheap pair of Dunlops over the summer, then swap into my Hunters for the Winter as have better grip and are neoprene lined, therefore warmer.

Have to agree hunter wellies are rubbish,as are joules.Nothing lasts like it used to which i think is a sinister sales ploy to generate more sales. It is possible to get hunter wellies from TKMAX for £30 when they have stock.I don't mind so much if they last only one year at that price.

I managed to get a pair at £35 but mainly for 'nice' things like before I get on at a show or something. Wouldn't have paid full wack

My Hunters are on their last legs and must be about 10 years old - the tread has gone and they're beginning to perish on the upper!! I was thinking of buying some Ariat Mudbusters to replace them - has anyone got any info about those?

My hunters have lasted 18 months-2 years and I wear pretty much day in day out.

Cath kidston - although some of the colours make me want to vomit - are super comfy, don't know about durability though guess they maybe another joules!!

I also have found with hunters the calf width is getting increasingly smaller. I have an older pair that flop around my calves but they newer ones feel a lot tighter and also come up a lot higher.

Yep hunter wellies are misnamed. My first pair lasted 20+ years. Now the company was bought out so the brand is in name only, made in china and rubbish quality.

I second the muck boot company very comfy and real quality.

I bought a pair of these at the beginning of winter thinking they would be better quality than my beloved-and-now-wrecked Huntress wellies which were a good ten years old. I am deeply disappointed in the Ariats. They have split between the sole and uppers and also on the front where the v bit meets the leg. They are now useless. Interestingly, another livery has the same pair for about the same length of time and hers have done the same. Then, whilst visiting another yard, noticed a young girl in a pair and hers were split too.

So no, I can`t recommend them and won`t be buying them again.

After several pairs of "Hunter Original Boots Only a Copy of the Original HB" that were CR**:mad: I kicked off with Hunter mega letter and They sent me a Free Pair of Hunter Bamboo Carbon Boots and they are now 2.5 years old and Good As New:D:D used for shooting and beating.
