I was bought some Hunter wellingtons as a gift from my my son at the badminton horse trials last year. I have taken the dog for a walk whilst wearing them (maybe 10 or 12 times) they still look absolutely pristine condition but they leak through the heal. Hunter refuse to exchange replace or refund for them because we cannot find the company we bought them from. I will never go to this company again. heather

had the same problem with a pair of ariats, but did get the money back, in my opinion if they cost a bit they should last a couple of winters at least

Hunter wellies aren't anything like as good as they used to be, as teenager I had a pair that lasted for several years, the last pair I bought sprang a leak after about a year.
They perished near the base of my big toes (where they bend as you walk)
Not worth the money at all.

Helly Hanson sailing wellies are great, as are Dunlop. Hunters fall apart and Joules leak. But the HH ones have a great tie top, so no water/hay/mud etc down them and great soles for gripping. They are the best for me.

^^ this, same for me. my 1st pair about 12yrs ago were brilliant, lasted about 5 yrs. bought another pair to replace them and they're nowhere near as comfy and started leaking at the heel after bout a year. Now i live in dublin river tall boots, hellish comfy, waterproof, can ride in them and don't leak if you take care of them. on my 2nd pair, well worth the money as they last for ages and can be worn for casual (when they're not caked in poo....)

I've got a pair of £20 wellies not sure of the make I got them after my more exspensive wellies started leaking to tie me over until i could afford a better pair, well I've had them two years, I wear them EVERY day, no problems, yet (touch wood)

Under EU law, they must repair or replace faulty items for up to a year after they have been bought, iirc, you have longer to take them through small claims. I'd email them that (google the laws first, to check my wordings correct :o) and push for a replacement pair, I suspect they will try to wriggle out of a refund/replacement if there's any way try can though :(

They're rubbish now, I have a pair of thirty pound countrywide wellies that have lasted brilliantly :D

I don't know many people who have hunters anymore, and I'd imagine the company has already lost most of their original rural/equestrian customers ...

but go into central London and you'll see the Hunters! People are wearing pristine hunter wellies in town for this new country/equestrian fashion thing that's going on at the moment. Also go to a music festival, people bring them out for an annual outing at the festivals too!

Perhaps Hunter have realised they can sell their cheaply made, cruddy plastic boots at the high fashion end of the market for MAX profits, and then they don't have to worry about wasting money on making good quality, durable boots if they can survive without needing to sell to the likes of us? ;):D

Probably because they are now made for the twenty-somthings in Hong Kong who wear them with zebra and leopard mini skirts and hang around in bars. At least they'll have warm feet even if their ar$e isn't:D

New Hunters are rubbish, my mum still has a pair of mine (that she refuses to hand over!) from when I was a teenager, they must be a good 15 years old now!

I have a fab pair of neoprene lined wellies from Yeomans, cost me £40 and are the warmest yard boots I’ve ever owned!

In regards to the issue with taking them back, I bought a Mark Todd bodywarmer at Badminton one year, I complained to Mark Todd (or the company that make them) as I had an issue, explained I couldn’t take it to the retailer as I had no idea who they were, they exchanged the item for a new one as they admitted it was a fault with their product. Now that’s good customer service!

If there was a fault with them when manufactured/sold then they are obliged to repair/replace them under consumer law. There is no time limit either if you can demonstrate that the fault was present when manufactured/sold, You do not need evidence of purchase either. Contact your local fair standards trading officer or the Consumer Association (Which magazine) and they will advise you.

Well my mother had her first pair for over 20 years until they finally started leaking. She's had her current pair for over 13 years and they're still going strong and she very kindly just bought me a pair for Christmas. They're fine so far but I have heard some bad reports about the newer ones so I'm worried they're going to break quite soon. Fingers crossed!

So true...

Look at the massive range of boots on their site! http://www.hunter-boot.com/women

I feel for anyone who has had to deal with Hunter's Custmore mis-service. Trully vile. Boyfriend bought me two pairs of Hunter Wellie Socks which not only rubbed my heels sore(thru thick socks..socks were ~£18 from Jack Wills. and feet...lets just say there was blood on the hunter welly socks & my poor ankles took ages to heal. Hunter were beyond vile..accused me of having stolen both pairs...my bf bought them on his Harrods credit card....in Harrods. As they were a present I did not have the receipt..he was on numberous trips to Japan/Switzerland -the statement was not good enough & as you can imagine he was not keen to foreward his personal statement to just anyone and i would not expect him to trawl through receipts on his one day back here & there between work trips..the email they sent me was obnoxious, rude & down right offensive. Still unsolved. VERY disappointed..their quality has gone rocketing down and so has my faith in their brand..its not worth the poo I stand in as the poo would be most offended!:-) However, a friend told me a few months later totally unknown to me she experienced the same..they 'lost' the pair she sent back tho after a few phone calls they eventually took about 6 months to replace them and the amount of times they claimed to have posted she should have about nine pairs by now!

My hunters have last me 2 years are on last legs now but I have worn them every day in the winter and most days in the summer no complaints from me.

I have defected to Le Chameau. Their neoprene lined boots may have cost me £90 odd but on the basis that the Hunters were only lasting me 3-4 months before splitting, after 2 years I am already quids in and the boots are still going strong (and my feet are toasty cos of the neoprene).

Hunters rubber quality is truly horrendous now. I wouldnt buy a sock off them these days. Very sad and sad that lots of people dont know and save up their pennies to buy them.

Reckon Watchdog ought to do a piece on them!

If they say 'Made in Scotland' on the label you have the old ones which are brillant.
If they don't they are made in china or somewhere by poorly paid overworked people and are sub-standard. Typical greedy company, there is a huge factory empty in Dumfries where they used to be made. Really we should boycott them.

Decathlon- £10 ish. Last me years and they visit my horse twice daily. Perfectly comfy for winter walks in the mud too. I usually wear through the bottom eventually. I'm afraid I'm not going to pay good money to advertise a brand!

I gave up with the normal 'original' hunter wellies years ago as they didn't last very long at all. I bought a pair of men's hunters with a thicker sole (I think they're called balmoral?) about 5 years ago and I've still got them. I don't actually wear them that often though, as they are jolly uncomfortable and rub my heels raw if I wear them for a long duration. I only really wear them when the fields are really muddy because I don't want to damage my riding boots! I won't buy any more hunters now - Ive had enough of them!

After my navy hunters split after a year I got some Muckboot Company neoprene jobbies and they have lasted me 6 years and still going strong.
I had to laugh at my friend, he works in Harrods as an interior design advisor. He is incredibly preened and fashionable, always jetting off to Milan etc... He emailed me to say he was THRILLED to have got his hands on a pair of limited edition Jimmy Choo designed Hunters - at a ridiculous price despite his staff discount - in black shiny snakeskin, and he posted a picture of them on facebook.

I offered him the chance to wear them down my yard... Needless to say he declined!
I don't really think Hunters are aimed at the equestrian market any more!!!!! Although it will serve them right when the equestrian fashion style is binned and no-one wants designer wellies any more... Who will buy crummy Hunters then?
