How wide is wide? my loan cob with a super huge head has managed to get herself qualified for a championship so want to have the proper 'look' so swapping my jods and boots for trousers and hard hat for flat cap but think she'd look better with a bigger noseband, how wide should I get it? and how high up her nose should it be? is it 2 fingers below the cheek bone pointy outty thing?

Thanks!!

here are a few pictures of her fatty head :)

She's lovely! :)

I would go for either 1 3/4 or 2 inch noseband with a 3/4 inch browband and 3/4 inch cheekpieces.

I recently got a lovely noseband and browband from Risley Saddlery.

thank you oneinamillion, I also think she suits the sunglasses, this is a better pic though i think..

i've just been looking at prices of nosebands! her show bridle only cost me £30! hmm.. found this on robinsons but I presume its only 1 1/4 inches which I dont think is wide enough but might be better than her padded one shes got on the moment?...

They aren't cheap unfortunately!

Personally, I wouldn't buy it as it is too narrow for her but yes it is better than her padded one. Could you save up money to buy a more expensive one that is wider? When is the championship?

hmm.. it is a little narrower than I wanted but your boy looks lovely in it. The championship is in two weeks and it's the last of the season so will probably get her a posh one for next season but can't afford an expensive one for just this one time.. hmm..what to do what to do...

eBay is still expensive for just one go, most of it is from stores anyway. Knew I should have taken up bridlework as a hobby! :p i'm asking around to see if i can borrow one but dont think anyone will have one that wide.. maybe I could get two of the Robinsons ones and wear them at once. lol

I love her! Love the sunglasses.

I have a meat head as well. He has a Kate Negus hunter bridle. Pricey, but looks perfect. He wears a full size, and its a little on the large side, so have punched in new holes. Hes a 14.3 hh MW lad. He is oddly enough cob size in length, but full size in width if you get me. Kate Negus is pricey, but you can pick up bargains in their sale. Beautiful leather though ane it lasts and last. I use mine for hunting and a bit of stressage, and he looks dead smart in it.

Not sure where you are, but they have some bargain chunky bridles at Eland Lodge ATM, £35 with rubber rains! Can't remember the brand now and it's not on the website.. so not much use!

Can you just try and borrow a flat noseband and matching browband, just for the occasion?
Looking at the pics I do think 11/2 to 2 inches would look fab, but the 2 inch might be too much with her pink muzzle, the only way to find out is to try it.
Good Luck at the champs :)

does the browband need to be flat to match the noseband? I was just planning on using the one I had which is raised padded.. eekk.. maybe i can get away with it as her forelock will cover it? maybe I can get make some form of ribbon noseband and see what she looks like in a 2 inch or 1.5 inch? hmm.. still not having much luck borrowing or finding one cheaper than the one above, also bit worried if I buy the one above that the colour won't match the bridle... hate showing, lol.. give me my showjumping, even with fear of death it's less stressful! :D

good work! hmm.. thats more like the price i was thinking! lol.. hmm.. pity the noseband isnt just a little bit wider. might ring them to see how fat it is...watch this space.. :)

they never got back to me. sigh... so went for the cheap 1 and a quarter one just for now and got a flat browband BUT although noseband matches, browband is a lighter colour of brown, maybe 2 shades. SOOOOO...

option 1: keep slightly lighter but flat browband to match the flat noseband
option 2: use normal browband that is right colour but is padded and raised?....

How about a pic to compare? :D
You should use the flat noseband if possible it just depends how different the colours are. Is the browband colour really different?

My lads bridle came off ebay by a guy called Mat Marlowm heritage saddlery, I gave him the sizes of the cheeks I wanted and the noseband I wanted and he made it for me - I got a double and I must admit its very smart and has been used a lot this year, however, before that I had bought a kinkade double bridle. The noseband on that is fairly substantial probably about an inch and a half. Ive looked on ebay and they were going really cheap as in about £30, also came with the double reins, so it gave you a set of laced ones. Really nice economy bridle. The only reason I got rid of mine was that the noseband wasnt just heavy enough for what I wanted and the cheek pieces were a little narrow, but I think it would do the job your looking for.

Best of luck!

Dizzy

sorry i couldnt get them on a horse so this'll have to do!

The second photo with the flat browband doesn't look too bad colour-wise so I would probably go for that. The raised one makes the noseband look narrower too, I think? Just my opinion though :)

Let us know how you get on at the championship!

I will indeed, now just got the problem of drying feathers, feature of another thread! If any one else has an opinion on browband please let me know, i'm edging towards the flat one as you said it does make the noseband look thinner with the padded...
