Hunting a Highly Strung Pony

I have been offered a free days hunting in Febuary with a Local hunt as my cousins yard is holding the meet.
The problem is my youngster is not yet ready to go hunting so i cant take him.
Harry my older horse LOVES hunting, to much in fact and he can become very hard to handle. He is not dangerous but can be very strong (doesn't buck rear kick other horses)
I was wondering if theres anything i can give him that wil keep him calmer but not effect his performace as i would still like him 'all there' for the jumping.
Is there such a thing?
Just thought i would ask

as i dont feel confident to take him if he behaves like he has done before!
Also i hunt him in a Pelham (jointed) would it be better to take him in a cheltenham or 3 ring gag?

I hunt my coloured in a Cheltenham gag and he is MEGA strong, ask Starbucks, he just loves the hunt. The only thing for mine was to take him out, twice a week and he has really settled into it now, taking them once or twice a year does nothing for their manners when they do go out.
I wouldn't reccomend giving anything stronger than Socalm for out hunting, I know a couple who have hunted on ACP but IMO that is a very very silly thing to do. Don't take him out first time in a Cheltenham, if you want something else to hunt him in XC him in it first and see how he goes. Pelhams are prone to cause leaning in strong horses as the bar is straight, I used to hunt mine in one and that combined with a curb chain made for a very grumpy horse.
