Am hoping to go out with the SU again on the 9th, but this time I will have no one to go with. It doesn't particularly bother me, but was just wondering if any of you had been by yourselves, and if so did you get looked after etc....

thanks. :)

I havn't been recently due to having horses that are either too young or injured but when i did go every season when i was younger i went on my own a lot, mainly to the ones that were hackable as i was too young to drive then. I used to meet my pony club friends at the meet so i wasn't really on my own, once you go a few times everyone in the hunt is very friendly and you soon get to know which person is good to stick with if your not jumping and you need a gate opened or something, then you realise who is good for sticking with as a lead over a jump etc. I think you'll be fine after a while you'll get really independant and actually enjoy the fact you don't have to rely on others.

Yes i have been out loads on my own- just go around the meet and introduce yourself and someone will always ride with you- top tip- make sure you say "goodnight" to loads of people if you dont stay to the end or people may get worried you have had a problem!

ahh okay, interesting. I thought people NEVER go alone! But yes think it will deffo be nice - I've been with them once before, and got quite friendly with a couple, so that's good. :)

LOL I'm terrible at introducing myself!!! But everyone sort of just milled around at the meet a few weekends back, so I'm sure I'll be fine. will deffo say goodnight - we did that last time even though it was only 1 when we left!!

My daughter is 13 and she goes on her own. Sometimes there are people out who she knows a bit and now she's been for a few times she recognises some regulars.

A few weeks ago she fell off and several people stopped to help her up and back on. \And now the Field Master knows her and keeps a look out too.

We do follow by car and she has her mobile with her if she needs it.

The first couple of times she went with someone, but says she prefers not having to stay with a particular person - more freedom to go her own speed and jump what she wants.

I went on my own and most people were very friendly but i tend to talk to everyone and anyone so that does help, found i nearly always had someone riding along side me and a lot of people had turned up on their own but it was a wed so prob OH were working

I went with my ex to nearby hunt B&BM and then went 5 times after that alone, everyone was very friendly and quick to offer the saddle flasks, I find people are grateful of a new face to chat to, I always pounce on unfamiliar faces at our hunt.

i hunt on my own 9 days out of 10, but i have been doing this for years, and i know my horse well enough to know that when he gets back to the box its home time, and he either eats grass, or if there is none then he looks at the view.
by the time he's untacked and i open the trailer he just puts himself away!
don't worry about it if you trust your horse. and if you're not sure... park with other people and try to ride back to the boxes with them, they'll probably be able to help you!

I went out by myself for the first time this year, (Normally have someone to go with). I soon found a few others and they new i was out by myself, kept any eye out for me, but i am also very lucky as OH loves following, whether i am out or not. I have to admit i was nervous going out without a buddy, but in the end i had one of the best days out ever.
