Has anyone any suggestions of hunting books that a 7yo boy would like, I'm trying to track down copies of the we hunted hounds/I carried the horn/ goodbye to hounds but other than a vintage PC guide to hunting I haven't been able to get my hands on anything else.

Any thoughts? He's mad keen at the moment!

Gosh, 7 is going to be difficult. The books you have mentioned are the ones that sprung to mind, although I suppose any books are going to be aimed at sightly older children as the younger ones are closely supervised by parents!

I think a big problem is going to be that most of the books will be written by a girl, or from the girl's point of view. I know the Pullein-Thompson ones feature several boys though.

Thanks, that's what I've found, all the books of mine that my mum has kept are based around girls.... Seems to be the age old problem..... Boys stuff for ponies is few & far between!

Perhaps the first chapters of Memoirs of a Fox-Hunting Man might be suitable? The story begins when the author/protagonist is a boy of nine who gets his first ponies and riding lessons and is eventually introduced to the hunting field. It's not a children's book and the language might be difficult for a 7 year old. I guess it really depends on how mature the boy is for his age.
