Hi,

recently ive started hunting my young welshie and we are in big wall country, and quite a bit of post and rails (with a bits of wire)/hedges and MUD!

anyway last week i took him out with front tendon boots, and nothing behind he came back with a boot rub (tiny bit of mud fever now on fronts) and he caught a bit of wire behind.

so on boxing day i used nothing = few small knocks nothing serious but today his legs are swollen (someone cut me up which meant we jumped a BIG part of a wall on a hill and he knocked his legs behind) now cobby is KEEN, and LOVEs to jump -anything, but i dont want to put him off when he might leave a leg every now and again, and i dont want to get tipped over wire if its hidden etc?!

must people in our hunt wear boots, but with all the mud , and risk of thorns, grit under boots etc im not keen of wearing them - but then i think if he dose knock his legs surely he will learn to be a better hunter?!

anyway - im beating myself up cos he has knocked himself.

lots of people in our hunt also wear knee boots, but im not keen on those too?!

so if i sometimes might stick some boots on, what do you use/type/brand? i saw lots of NEW boots out yesterday.

I know many stone wall hunts make knee boots compulsory - just a thought.

What about some sort of sport boots as I would have thought they would stay closer to the skin - though maybe not ideal for wetter conditions

I use the Westrop combined knee and brushing boots on the front and thick Woof brushing on the back. We have walls, hedges the lot.

Using wide Duct tape round the boots over the velcro fastenings keeps them in place.

On Boxing day we crossed some very wet and deep ground. My boy finished the day with no bumps, rubs cuts etc.

I saw two other ladies using this method and it thought what a good idea it was.
