Hi
I am new to riding (6months) and am planning to go hunting this season! I only have tatty old riding boots with chaps (suede ones) ! I have been told I need long boots to go hunting? As I am not sure if I'll ever go again I don't really want to spend a fortune ! Does anyone know were I could get a pair of second hand boots from ? Size 10 ! Do they need to be black?

Also someone told me to get "off Green" britches - and not yellow/ White! ?. Any views on this?

Thank you

Ideally you want beige breeches and black boots. If all you have is black short boots and chaps that will be fine for your first meet as long as they are clean and tidy. Who are you planning on going hunting with? Do you have your own horse or will you be after a hireling?

They advise long boots as they offer you a bit more protection from bumps and scrapes on gates and undergrowth. If you get into it then invest in a pair, but for a first tidy chaps will be fine. You could always try to find some leather gaiters on Ebay. If you will be wearing tweed then you could wear brown boots, but black will be most versatile.

Beige breeches will be fine and dandy.

A pair of long black rubber boots will be fine, i just bought some for £35, loads of people in my hunt wear them and they keep your feet warm! You can always get some proper leather ones if you decide hunting is for you.
