I've started to ride Tarquin in a hunting breastplate as he is a funny shape and it stops the saddle rolling (on the advice of a saddle fitter). However despite being properly fitted it is causing two small rub marks where the metal rings are near the top of the breastplate. I was looking at those lovely 5 point ones from Devoucoux or Jefferies but really can't justify the expense. I have been on Ebay and not found anything suitable so suggestions appreciated please.

do you mean where the strap goes across the withers? those rings at either end?

Mine did that on my last mare too, but only in winter when she was clipped as soon as summer came it was fine.
As long as you have fitted it coorectly.

Its the two rings either side of the wither strap. It is fitted properly, i.e. not too tight and I have used one before on my older horse. Hope it'll stop when he gets his proper coat, he was full clipped a month ago.

mine does this on my rather over sensitive mare, so i've put a sheepskin noseband on the band to pad it out a bit for her and its worked amazingly! You could wrap an old fleece bandage or something underneath it as well xx
