Ive been out hunting afew times now, I do generally optional jumping days due to my mare being quite spooky when jumping. I've been doing a lot of cross country schooling etc to try and get her less bothered by jumping new things but it doesn't seem to be working!? Does anyone have any suggestions as to any exercises or anything I can do to help.. Or is it a matter of just doing it when in the moment!?

Thanks in advance!

Get her behind a good lead horse and she should go unless you totally overface her. Once hounds are running the majority of horses will run and jump well. Is she fit enough to do what you are asking of her.

I had this with my youngster and found a bit of drag hunting really helps to get you going as the main thruster field go like rockets and I find he's so desperate to keep up that we fly. It makes me braver too as I know jumps are safe, hedges checked for wire etc. And this translates well to the trail hunting that the fox packs do :)

Okay, that's really good as I generally go with a drag hunt. Just find I steer clear of jumping due to how she can be. I've got a friend I go with who jumps most things so she could be a good lead for me! Thanks guys! Just going to bite the bullet now!

Just go for fences that you know are an easy height for her. And then find a good lead horse and kick! Be clear that you mean her to jump the fence. Look beyond, not in to the bottom of it, hold her steady into the middle but careful you don't use too much rein and stop her.
