Hi

Well, I am hunting next SUnday for the first time ever with the Coakham Bloodhounds.

It will also be my horses first time.

I am really really nervous!

Does anyone hunt with them? I am hoping that as it is the first meet of the season, and says "children welcome" that it won't be too crazy!

My aim is to stay at the back with the children, and introduce my horse to it all as calmly as possible, and try to let him learn that hunting isn't something to go crazy over!

Is this a good plan? Anyone hunt with them and can advise? Are they a good hunt to go out with for the first time? Any tips?

Thanks

I am going autumn hunting with them at the moment, they are a great bunch, but it can get a bit fast ... hang on to your hat!!

Can you go tomorrow evening? the evening hunts (start at 4.30pm) are just for a couple of hours and are not so full on, it's a good way to ease in slowly (ish!!)

No I really wanted to go tomorrow, but have to work :(

DO you think it would be best to put this one off and find something more sensible as a first time? It's more important that I introduce me and my horse to it in the best possible way than that I get out as soon as possible!

If it's a childrens hunt you will have someone to stay at the back with, they do their own thing and just tend to walk & trot and take their time .... but they always seem to catch up in the end!!

If your horse is sensible and will be able to cope with staying at the back - you will will have a nice first time.

Are you going with anyone else? is it this Sunday at Beckley you are going? I am going to that one so you could come with us but I don't stay at the back .... we just go with the flow!! but I can look after you :)

Thanks that's so nice of you!

We are going next SUnday to Hurstmonceaux, and I am going with 2 others from my yard. Both of their horses first times, but not the riders.

I am from Risebridge, you may have seen about 20 of my yard out last week!

He is a very sensible chap, but of course you never know with hunting! We have done a sponsored ride, ODE, dressage, Trec and jumping this summer, and he has proved to be very sensible at everything, so thought maybe it was time! Also being at such a busy yard, we are used to being surrounded by loads of horses haring about!

Ah! I was out whe your lot were out last week, they got on ok, Jason loved it - well he was smiling anyway!!

I'm sure you will be fine, if your not there will be someone there to help you and even take you back if needed so don't worry ... we all have our first time, after that you will be hooked!

Take a hip flask with port or something in it (if your over 18:))... it helps!!

Have fun, I may see you there if I can get over that way.

Lollii I must have been out same day as you aswell then, as I was out the same day as Jason, Sarah & Co. I was parked up next to them in the pink wagon with the chestnut. That was my 2nd time out with Coakham and really enjoyed myself. I stayed nearer the back most of the time as i'm trying to make a mannerly hunter out of my mare, thingstodo thats good advice it is much quieter at the back so i prefer being there with a novice horse.
