Hi all,

Can anyone help... i'm not 100% sure how to attach my hunting flask to my saddle- is there only one way?? Which side is best, and out of interest.... what sort of drinks do people have in them out hunting??!
I was going to have Port....maybe mix in a little Southern Comfort!

Would appreciate some advice!

Thanks

Lets hope F & M clears soon.

PS How do you all put pictures of your 4 legged loved ones underneath your posts?????!!!! Lots of questions today!! Thanks

If you are female, you shouldn't really have a flask on your saddle! It's considered unladylike! A small one in your pocket is fine, and stick what you like in it. If you still want to use your saddle flask, you will find it will only go on one side or the other (depending on the straps) - the little strap attaches to the D at the front, and there should be a thick strap lower down which goes under the saddle flap and one of your girth straps slips through it. Hope this helps!

I have my saddle flask on the left hand side, it works well as i have my hunting crop in my right hand so it doesn't all get muddled up! I put sloe gin in my flask and certainly wouldn't be with out it!!
Happy hunting

I have Black Mountain apple&blackcurrant brandy in mine. It's made by a small distillery in South Wales. It's easy to get around here but not so sure about the rest of the country. One guy I gave a bit to described it as being like syrup! I did go through a phase of putting a bit of mulled wine in it with the brandy around christmas time - heaven on a cold morning!

Percy Special is originally made by the Duke of Northumberland for when huinting his hounds the Percy!!

It is very yummie!! Is Whisky & Cherry brandy, though you can't have to many other wise you end up falling off though you think you are still hunting!!!!
Is very nice & warming!

Yes Damson gin is homemade (well mine is!) but you can buy it in the shops is also very nice!!

Ha ha, I guess i could buy 2 hip flasks and a saddle flask and have 3 tipples to hand.....however i would be offering them around.... not guzzling them all to myself... i would like to stay on my horse ideally!!

Yes mine are drunk for by others than myself!!
Though doesn't ensure that I stay on, maybe if I drank them myself it wouldn't hurt when I fell off!!???....

Damson gin is made the same way as sloe gin. Easier if you have a massive damson tree in the garden though!

I have been known to take a hip flask out too, especially on foggy days when there's likely to be a lot of standing around.

I've never heard that one - well, you live and learn. :)

I have heard it said that a flask in the pocket could break your ribs in the event of a fall - but I've never seen it happen. :?

Making me quite thirsty sat at my desk reading all this!!

To take the sweetness off sloe gin, mixing it with whisky is gorgeous (if you like whisky that is!) Gives you that real warming feeling!!

I'm another fan of Damson Gin! The food halls at all the shows have fab stands sellings it all, and you can try before you buy!!!

cherry brandy is nice.

my friend Drummer who replied above brings the scotch and port so between us we have 3 flasks and just keep switching round.

as for where we put them we keep them in our tweed pockets - probably not the safest thing to do if you fall off however thats not something i hope to test in the future!

Tia Maria!
You should not put acidic drinks such as coke or orange juice in metal flasks as it strips the lining off the inside of the flask and makes all your drinks after that taste of metal. Its fine to put them in the glass flasks though.
