Hi I want to go hunting in essex, or surrounding counties, I havent been before but my horse has in ireland so thought it would be a good way to keep her fit ready for next eventing season!
as Im a novice in this area some advice would be helpful to!
i would rather not go on a hunt where they kill foxes so maybe just drag hunting?? as would love to go with the hounds

http://www.srcf.ucam.org/cudh/map/node - Try the Cambridge University Drag who meet at West Hanningfield and other places in the locality. They hunt a pre-laid trail. They are a good crowd, but quite thrusting and very fast.

or the East Anglian Bloodhounds

http://www.eabh.co.uk/ - they hunt the clean boot i.e the scent of a runner

The best pack in Essex is the ESSEX HUNT they are very hospitable and welcome all, good country good people and good country most importantly good hunting find the details in hunting directory or PM me

Depends on which part of essex your form
I go out with the east Anglian bloodhounds, they are good fun to go out with, not a lot of hanging about and lots of great country to hunt over and the best thing is they hunt on a Sunday

I hunt with the Essex and they have welcomed me and offered help - they are a lovely crowd.

I would say, if you are a newbie to hunting - a drag hunt is fast and furious and scary as you are always on the go following a scent whereas a fox hunt is go, stop, go, stop and much more newbie friendly. The Essex hunt within the law so the fox killing is all done humainly and out of site.:)
