I have a 5yo ISH, who i am told has done 2 seasons hunting in Ireland (was brought over this year)

I am confident that he will be a good boy out hunting, as he has lovely maners and a great attitude, however, I am worried that it will ruin all our schooling!!

He is a big baby, and it has and will take us a while to get his balance and acceptance of contact whilst moving forward at the same time etc...

Just wondering if bombing round the cotswolds weekly will all of a sudden mean i have a tank again :o or if he will remember what dressage boards are come the 2011 season...

sorry I would have put this in hunting, but no one is in there... ;)

maybe if you alternate between the two it would help? I haven't done hunting though so sorry if it's not a valid answer :)

Thats the plan, hopefully I will be able to school him 1/2 times a week, just a little worried that his small irish brain wont cope, and I was wondering how people found their competition horses reacted to doing both!!

I plan on hunting my 5yo this winter.
She did a few days autumn hunting with her old owner.
The reason I'll be hunting is it's all good experience, I don't want her bored in the winter when most of the time we'll be stuck in an arena, it should help with her thinking more forward and hopefully she'll become more confident over fences all good for eventing. I also think it helps to form a bond between horse and rider as you have to trust each other.
Most importantly it'll be fun :)

Agree with MonkeyBum! It'll do the two of you the world of good. Just remember to have fun and don't take it too seriously.
