Aye oop everyone! I'm new here and enjoying reading all the hunting stories. I'm wondering if anyone hunts on natives, particularly Dales or Fells? And if they have any pics to share....Thanks.

I've taken my Highland mare a couple of times this season. She loves it and although she's extremely strong she's an absolute delight to take out and commands a lot of interest and compliments... I really enjoy riding her and chatting to people about her and her breed. I'm hoping to get her back out for a few more days this season and then a season of showing beckons for the pair of us... Really looking forward to it!

Here are a few pics of her:

...and a quick vid of her leaving the meet:

I know she isn't a Dales or a Fell but hope this helps... I'm sure you will have a whale of a time!! :D

I recognise you from the last two pics. We went to that meet for the photo call but Tamsin couldn't hunt as she was still recovering from having her appendix out.

Thank you for those Benjis Girl, lovely pics! What a star you pony is, i love the vid. I'm not in a position to hunt at the moment, but would love to have a go on a quiet day in the future, I'm nearest Zetland country and have a Dales, and doing lots of reading up about it all right now, very interesting!

It was fun having that photo call before the meet, wasn't it?! I really enjoyed the Opening meet, Islay was in her element that day! :)

Thanks, I decided to take her as she can be rather hot in company when showing and I thought it may just help to socialise her a bit more and add another string to her bow. She's turned out to be a proper little allrounder... My aims for this year are to get her out doing M&M Workers and a massive ambition of mine is to get her going side saddle... I'm hoping she will be as obliging to that as she is with everything else she does! :) If I do manage it and dare to take her hunting sideways, I shall post lots of photos then! :)

I took the plunge yesterday and took my dales out with our local hunt he's 6 but took it all in his stride and loved it. Was completely mesmerised by the hounds and not at all bothered to have them running round him.

This pic was us leaving the hunt to ride home after 5 hours out.

What a fab looking Dales, renegade!

Does anyone tackle big jumps while out hunting with their ponies? I know natives are generally good jumpers, but some of the hedges and fences you see in H&H magazine hunt reports look mental, like only an 18hander could take them.....

Demo pony, best hunting pony ever. He was a 13hh welsh C, and would do the full day at the front jumping everything (he made nothing of height, was like a little bouncy ball!). We always joked he though he was a masters horse!

He was amazing, and hunting totally changed him for the better. Before, he'd been very quiet and quite nervy- he'd been knocked about a bit in the stable as he was a dominant little thing, and had been cut very late. He would always look at least twice, and took a fair amount of convincing to go and would overjump massively. After hunting he was on fire and went from scurrying round 2' classes to pinging 3' courses with ease and going XC like a star. He still overjumped, but because he could rather than greenness. Brought him right out of his shell and turned him into a really fun, cocky little pony.

The jump there is a decent 3'3 on take off!
