I want to take OH's mare hunting......she's been before and has done team chasing and stuff so I think she will look after me.....

She's a native type with feathers and a long-ish but tidy mane, its not flapping around her shoulder or anything.....feathers are not too wafty either.....do I just make sure she's neat and tidy or do she have to be plaited? I don't mind doing it but her mane is pretty thick, they'd be the size of golf-balls ....or is a running plait acceptable??

Was planning on skulking around at the back but didn't want to stick out like a sore thumb :smirk:

I hunt with the blood hounds and they never plait, it is great!

I have been out with the fox hounds as well and there were a few horses that were not plaited, I think as long as you are neat and tidy you will be fine.

I would either ring up and ask or do a running plait for the first time you go, then you will be able to suss out what everyone else does!!

Have fun!

I noticed on this years Readyfield hunt card they've asked people to plait if possible. I'm quite glad for that as it definately looks a lot smarter when people plait. It's a usual thing for fox hunting so why not bloodhounding. :)

Bloodhounds I followed the other week were very strict about plaiting, the master made special mention at the beginning to remind everyone to make the effort to plait to show respect for their hosts and to avoid looking like "an unruly rabble".

There was only one person unplaited and one hogged. All the rest, including a cob and a native were plaited.

Some weren't the neatest plaits but I think that making the effort is the point and they will improve!
