I'm looking at going hunting on dartmoor on the 9th April for the final day of the season.
Can anyone recommend which pack to go with?
I went with the Spooners last year so would like to try a different pack this year
Any recommendations much appreciated

Rosiefronfelen I know who the different packs are on the moor I just don't know who would be best to go with.
Honey Pony what sort of horse is best I have a Welsh Cob who came from Dartmoor so is used to the country.
Hunting Mad I was thinking South Devon or Dartmoor Hunt. I have no idea where they meet on that Saturday but going by other meets that I know of think South Devon is probably closest

A sure footed sensible one! The going over Belstone way can get hairy but Warren inn side is good fun with stone walls to jump.

She is sure footed but not sure about the sensible bit at the mo! She has been doing a little bit of whipping in, so when she is back with the rest of the field she thinks she is entitled to be up at the front, needless to say I think my arms have stretched a few inches trying to keep her behind the field master!!:)

If you have already tried the Spooners then have a day with the South Devon. There is an article on both packs in the latest issue of The Field and they both look like offering a cracking day out. The article has info on the country, accommodation and hirelings. If you can't get hold of a copy PM me and I will scan it and e-mail it over for you.

Thanks for the article, I shall enjoy reading that. I managed to get hold of a meet card for South Devon. Didn't realise quite how close they are to me - only about 45 mins away.
Then the darn creature went and stood on a stone and punctured her sole on sat, so hunting on Dartmoor is on hold for the moment! Blooming typical

Got the farrier coming out on fri just to have a check but she is obviously feeling better because when I checked on her this morning as soon as she realised I didn't have any food on me she galloped back off across the field

Hi, I am with Spooners and our final meet is on the 12th April if that gives her a bit longer to recover!

PM me if you want any info.

Woop woop farrier has given the mare the all clear, back to her normal bolshy self, his words were 'take her hunting it will do her good!' even though she has been going every week all season.
So I am going to do Mon & Wed with the South Devon - Mon I think is going to be going over some land that my boss owns & Wed is going to be around the area that I brought my mare from, so it will be like going home for her.
Possibly saturday with staghounds. Figured I better get the extra few days in while I can.
