Would you go hunting if you didn't have anyone to go round with and weren't a regular on the hunt? I was supposed to be going with a friend on Sunday but her horse has a sore back and can't go. I don't mind plucking up conversation with strangers because I'll want to know people if I go regularly, I'm just concerned about what would happen if I fell off. What if no-one notices and stops for me? What if I get knocked out and no-one knows who I am? Am I just being silly?

Go.

I went hunting on horseback for the first time the other day. Didn't turn up to meet or anything I was just out on a hack and they were there so I joined in and had a great day.

TBH I think they were all pretty jealous cos it was a boiling day and I was just in a teeshirt :)

Ive been hunting before I knew everyone, and I find if you donnt know anybody you soon get chatted to and many times ive said, goodnight to the group when ive had enought and started off home on my own and found a group following me.

I don't go with anyone. My Dad follows in the car as he loves watching the hunt.

You often find that you do acctually know people, you just didn't realise they hunted.

Go ,but indroduce yourself to the secretary at the meet and just mention you out alone. A lot of hunts have a good group of foot followers, ready to scoop up any fallers if necessary.

I may be on my own sunday, Im going to tell the cap secretary this, and I always leave my keys tucked in the cover of the spare wheel. Im going to leave my friends phone number in the car, so if necessary then someone can ring them and fetch my horse and trailer.

I go out with bloodhounds and they do take horses back to their yard if necessary, but we are really close to home.

Hopefully matey is coming with me though.

I've only ever been on my own! Saw a few people I knew but was mainly on my own. Don't let it put you off going!

I first started with a couple of friends but often used to also go on my own - quite a challenge with a poor loader! My local hunt is great, the secretaries help you if you make yourself known, we also have a non-jumping group. Everyone looks out for one another so you won't end up lost and alone! Having said that, don't expect people who have paid a lot of money to end their day early - make sure you can gallop and jump securely - its only fair. I also liked to know someone could bring my trailer in an emergency!

I say go too, if you go with a good hunt they should be pretty friendly if you tell them it's your first time out and you're on your own esp. Whenever we're out there's usually a good foot following out and speaking as one who used to foot follow a lot, we're more than happy to help out if you fall off or need a hand. :) Also if you do fall off it would be a bad hunt if someone didn't stop and help you.
Out of interest who are you going with sunday?
