Hey everyone! I am new to this part of the forum but I would like to take my horse hunting this winter. Not sure what he is going to do as he has never hunted in his life! He currently does BD. I thought I would take him on hound exercise first... does this sound a good plan?

Anyway I have a shortlist of 3 in my area. I was wondering if anyone could recommend or warn me against (pm if you need to!!) any of the following!

Barlow
Four Shires
Grove and Rufford

Thank you. :)

I'm hoping to go on hound exercise with the 4 shires this month, I've been out with them on foot and they are a lovely friendly bunch with lots of meets fairly close to me.

If you are a brave jumper you might want to add the South Notts to your list, I'm not brave enough.

There is also the High Peak to look into.

Kat, we have a non jumping field as well at the Fourshires, so if you don't feel brave, you can switch between fields.

It is a fast hunt but no one ever gets left out, Senior Master and Field Masters know everyone by name.

I have never felt so welcome by a hunt in my life.

You really would enjoy Hound excercise.

Thanks for your message, I know the four shires have a non jumping second field and that is part of the reason I plan to join you for my first mounted outing! I've got a youngster and we've done very little jumping so it will suit us. I've emailed the secretary and she got back to me really quickly and was also encouraging, the website was really helpful too so I'm hoping to get out by the end of the month if I don't chicken out.

I'll try to drop you a PM when I know which meet I'm going to and maybe if you will be there too you can keep an eye out for me and say hello, it would be nice to meet a HHOer!

I went out with the four shires last year, it was fab, I really enjoyed myself and so did my Horse. I went on the Chatsworth Introduction Meet in October and stayed in the none jumping field. What a day it was brilliant and everybody I met was friendly and made me feel very welcome. Give them a try you will not be disapointed.

We have a website and FB page, Helen and Andy are brilliant and will be able to answer any questions.

We do have an intro hunt at Chatsworth for new folks who want to see what it is like. The usual members will be out as well. It's Ratcatcher and no need to plait, jut a great opportunity to join in and see if you enjoy it. Details are on the website.

Paddy.
