Supposed to be my young children’s first time out. It’s the Pony Club meet and a good location. They’ve been excited for WEEKS and plan to spend all day getting their ponies ready.

However….the forecast is heavy constant rain and 5 degrees.

Would you:
a) waterproof up and go
b) stay home

This effing bloody effing weather!!!!

I don't remember the weather being much of an issue as a child. I rode whenever I wasn't at school or it was too dark and that was that. I do remember getting very cold hands and feet and one pony club rally in the summer when it hammered down and thats all.

I have no doubt their wet weather gear is infinately superior to the stuff I had 60 years ago. I hope they like cleaning tack 😆

Go, if they so keen to ride. take spare dry clothes. Be ready to go home early. Flasks of hot drinks. When I was a kid I would be right anoyed if mother had said we not goi g it’s wet out there. Kids and ponies don’t melt.

No such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing (unless wind speeds are at dangerous levels for travelling). Hope they have a ball and you keep dry'ish.

Go!
Remember a spare pair of gloves trapped under the girth straps - cold, wet hands caused most moans when I took the kids out!
Have a brilliant day!

Where in the country are you? there is a weather warning for wind in several areas tomorrow. If you are in the warning area give it a miss.
If its just rain, go, have fun & make sure you take a change of clothes, flask, hot water bottles, anything to get warm & dry quickly

I’ve 99% decided NOT to go sadly. Reasons are:

- It’s proper bad weather. There’s a weather warning for wind and rain. Only yellow but still.
- Both children going are under 10 and first day out. I don’t want to put them off forever!
- One pony hasn’t been before but is very good. However, is bad wind and rain a great first mix to go in?
- The other pony is very good but has hock arthritis. Probably not great for her to be stood out in 5 degrees with cold rain and wind if I can avoid it.
- Due to our extremely remote location, the meet is 2 hours 15 mins away. Which is a potentially horrible journey in those conditions.

They’ve taken it ok. We will pick a better day. I am SO fed up of being thwarted by the weather though ☹️

Definitely go, but be prepared to call it a day if the weather gets too bad.

Bring lots of towels and a few changes of warm clothes for each person.

Warm drinks and chocolate for afterwards.

Don't mind the weather and enjoy it!

Go and enjoy. Be prepared as above and have fun. As long as safe to travel it will be fine. When you've had enough pack up. The times I've hunted and had best day ever and people have said they wish they'd gone but weather forecast was rubbish so they didn't go.
