Arrived at 11.30 to the meet, it was absolutely p*ssing rain, loads of the roads around the village were flooded and all it was a very miserable morning... We went to the pub for a drink and chat with everyone before we were meant to set off, there was a huge question mark over whether the hunt was going ahead... There was a surprisingly large turnout, but at 12 (when we were meant to set off) it was decided that the hunt wasn't going to go ahead. It was very short notice and many people were disappointed, including 2 people who came all the way from Galway to hunt with us today...

I was asked by one of the members of our hunt if I'd like to come along with a few others to his yard, where he has some excellent forestry and tracks surrounding it, as an alternative... I said yes, as his place was only half an hour away... 5 people came along, all of them were daredevils like me

We obviously had great craic! Won't go into too much detail as I don't want to bore you all to death, but there were some deadly banks and ditches in the forest, very similar to what Scarteen jump on a regular basis. There were also a few stone walls around the tracks and a few brush type fences and logs, I was very pleased with Ali, he cleared everything by a mile and was very well behaved! I'm over the moon with how his behaviour is improving tbh, he's a completely different horse to what he was like at the first hunt I brought him to... I won't be out next weekend unfortunately as my Father is going away on business for the week, but the hunt the week after that is meant to be quite good, hopefully the weather won't be too bad!

We arrived back at the guy's yard very wet, but certainly not miserable

You are very brave!!! Even when I was a teenager I would never have jumped anything remotely like that in Scarteen country!

Well done. You must be thrilled with your lovely horse.

Thanks you two

Unfortunately Hornby my father doesn't follow us when we're hunting as he's so busy, I'll try and persuade him to follow us on boxing day though!

Oh that sounds great. Perhaps I should come over to Ireland to hunt. At least there I doubt I would get complaints over the sound my horse's hoofbeats make when cantering! Still I'm going hunting in the Borders soon and have been promised good jumping that day!

Oh, I hope you can persuade him!

Jumping ones mind! Don't you have a pack photographer to catch the exciting bits...that would be fun
