Hunting whip question

I've finally decided after all these years to treat myself to a hunting whip. I'm looking for an old one in the usual places, but can everyone recommend their preferred shaft ie malaca, cane, leather covered?

Mine is malaca, it wasn't something I considered when I bought it but it has taken a lot of punishment over the years and still looks very tidy.

I have just bought a second hand one and this has a leather shaft. I didn't give it any thought but it is beautiful and I hope I don't loose it first time out!

Me too Lovely old Swaine one dated 1895. cane handle. It really is lovely and can't wait to get out and use it.
