Hunting with a difference!

OMG thats horendous! x why would they put thse horses through those conditions!! x

Most riders seem under horsed, alot are wearing wellies and no silks, the tack seems unfitted on the ones i looked at and the fact people are all stood about grinning and laughing makes me cringe!! x

Not one of those horses looks like its enjoying itself and nor do the riders!!

Disgusting! x

As posted in Hunting:
Can it be a hunt with no hounds?
Looks like a bunch of chavs with incorrect attire, sitting on horses with incorrect tack and falling into the mud rather a lot...
Theres one picture where the rider is holding his reins the wrong way up, and the horse behind him has its flash fitted over the bit

Some of those photos did not make for pleasant viewing. I think a few of them need lessons in tacking up. Pretty disgusting to be honest, also pretty sure I can see a child carrying a long wooden stick type thing clearly been beating the pony over/down/in whatever it is they're doing.

The one of the little coloured flat on its face in the mud with the large girl sat on its head/neck is pretty horrific.

frther to my OMG comment.

HOW is that even hunting??? thats mre "lets see who can stay on the longest and go home with the least crippled horse"...............

awful.

Well, you can't say horses from Kerry are ditchy!

All that mud  but fair play to the horses & riders they all had a go (some more successfully than others!) and I'm sure the last thing they were thinking about was "Is my riding classically correct" - I would imagine they were doing all they could to stay on!!

After all, everyone says it is a bonus if a horse has hunted in ireland - obviously made of tough stuff!! :)

That is absolutely shocking.. Surely that's not a 'true' hunt? No hounds and incorrect attire.. Many of the horses look drained, riders are under horsed and most of them look to have fallen off!?

I'm sorry but I'd never put any of my horses in that situation where there is a very high risk of injuries including broken legs etc.. (And I hunt too!)

I don't think a lot of the pics but am amused how someone can comment that something is injured from a photo where all of the animal in questions legs are intact

Horrible. Some of those photo's look awful. Poor ponies. They have obvious ill fitting tack, are being gobbed in the mouth by overweight novices, then there's a man with big stick chasing ponies over the ditches ... :(

It's apparantly not a hunt. It's a club, they call Kerry Hunt club - or something?

Here are their details copied from facebook:

About
The Kerry County Hunt club is a members club.Catering for all riders from novice to experienced. All vistors are very welcome. Club Number 087 9558868
Mission Every hunt to be as good as the next

Some of those kids are bloody impressive though.

You can't judge off photos alone on soundness, dehydration, condition, etc- I didn't see a single horse looking thin, and many appear to have their ears pricked and be ready for the next challenge. It may not be what you approve of, but the horses mostly seem to be in good conditions... Some of the comments are totally uncalled for on the photos... "Jesus, let go of his mouth much!"- the reins are visibly slack and the pony is in a snaffle?!

It may not be to your taste, but I'd guess some of what you do isn't to theirs either.

They can wear anything they like as long as they fit the tack correctly, ride a horse that is fit for the job they are asking of it, don't use their horse's mouth as a handlebar and show some concern for the animals they are riding! Sadly none of the riders in these photos show any inclination to do any of the above, they are using these horses as four legged living breathing quad bikes, I suspect none of them has had a riding lesson in their life and I don't see any horse lovers either :(

^^^ This guy can't hold his reins, and the pony behind him appears to have its flash done up above the bit. None of the horses are clipped, clean or turned out correctly, and the riders attire is worse than I'd care to be spotted at the shops wearing.
Whilst its not the grandest display of cruelty I've ever seen, its hardly a decent advertisment for hunting or equestrianism...

I agree with you! Some of the Irish guys who hunt with us come out on unclipped ponies - it's not the end of the world, I clip purely because I do not have the time for them to dry off. The horses all look well fed and a lot of photo's taken when horses land over a ditch might appear to show them knuckling over. I would say this is common practise of how a horse lands when it jumps a ditch and more so when it's slippery.
A few of those kids - jesus they can ride. As for what they are wearing etc - I cannot say it bothers me. I personally wouldn't be turned out like that but I don't criticise people in my town for walking around in track pants. It's not something I would do but horses for courses ;).
I am sure all of the ponies and horses are well looked after and the morale through the 'hunt club' is high. Good on them, getting their horses out and having some fun. Much better than trawling around a school for hours upon end!

Pic 126 says it all , how to completely trample your pony's face in the mud cos you obviously have no concern for it in any way - horsemanship at it's very worst!:(
