We watched our local hunt at the weekend, and was surprised to see a couple in a pony and trap. As i am about to start to drive, I am interested in how welcome we would be if we came along? or is it a bit of a hinderance having driving folk there?

Oh thats interesting, did they just go to the meet? I think most hunts are happy to have new supporters, on horse and foot so can't see why not but you'd need to ask the hunt secretary. I'm not sure how long you'd be able to follow in a horse and trap as well as it's hard enough to follow in a land rover! x

No, they joined in the whole day! sometimes it was a tad muddy, so they went on the road wilst the main meet went round the edge of fields, but other than that they were in the thick of it!!

I don't think that is on. In my experience, traps coming up behind horses and make them fly off the handle (noise). Plus it is impractical because traps cannot get through the narrow gaps a horse can nor can they jump. They should therefore follow like footies in their cars do imo.

Oh wow, they must oh been tired horses after that then! How do they get around jumps, really bad ground etc? Even the non-jumpers out hunting tend to squeeze through gaps in the hedges.

I don't think i'd be impressed with people with traps literally going across the fields at the moment, maybe better when the grounds ok but not ideal now! To follow along the roads etc would be ok though! x
