He says that if he'd tried it on his other horse he would have ended up hunting in Lancashire or Shropshire

But that one is an eventer and totally trustworthy. He did a great job though, eh?

Another pic on CFDH.co.uk shows him jumping timber next to wire - now there's accuracy with no bridle!

You can shoot me if you like, but in pic 5 looks like he is holding a rein and there is a slight outline running along the horses neck?Just an observation and apologies if i am wrong

Please can I have that horse? Although to be fair I know a couple of horses that would do that - just not with me on board!

hadfos - I think he's got a string around Rivers neck?

I think he's got something like a stirrup leather around the neck. Still... rather him than me!!

I think CPTrays or someone else had said previously he had schooled the horse to the neckstrap/breastplate/martingale for the event.

Well done to him. I'm glad he achieved it. Although pretty spectacular that it worked so well hunting, I hope more people will realise that a bit is an accessory, a tool in a toolkit and not a necessity for riding a horse. By that i don't mean everybody ditch your bridles and hunt (not immediately anyway!

) but if he, and the people who do well at (dare I say it?) natural horsemanship can direct and stop a horse without a bit in its mouth, remind me why some of us need stronger and stronger bits again?!

I am also probably hanging myself here too but i agree with hadfos that in pic 5 it does appear the rider is holding reins and there is an outine as if a pair of reins were there, which is clearly not the neckstrap?? Also in pic 2 he appears to be holding his hands as if holding a pair of reins... not a neckstrap. Also sorry if im wrong?

Looked liked a neckstrap to me. Why on earth would he scam something like this when he's raising money for charity and clearly has many witnesses around him??

Good on the guy, but yes, I agree he's a bloody nutter!! I wouldn't jump those hedges strapped on and wrapped in bubblewrap, lol!

So what are these reins attached to then? Bl**dy good photoshopping if he edited out the bridle too. On one of them I think it's the angle that makes the neckstrap (separate to the breastplate) look like reins.
On the comment about where his hands look like they're in a holding reins position - where else would you put your hands?? It's probably habit to keep them in the same place even when there's nothing to hold on to.
