Before my friend turns 18 she wants me to go hunting with her with the beafort. does anyone here hunt with them?
i told another friend who i hunt with and the friend got very touchy saying the country was not very good up there and there are so many people at the meets its not worth all the "loonys" ... going on about how there are not many decent jumps etc..
i was a bit taken aback as this friend is normally very enthusiastic for me and a keen hunter but doesnt necisarily know her stuff...
so whats it like? is it true there are over 100 mounted on a saturday meet?
thanks for the help:)

The Beaufort is a lovely country, with plenty of decent (not formidable) jumps and LOTS of gates (it's not known as funker's paradise for nothing!:D) It does have huge fields - but it's pretty well controlled - loonies are generally not tolerated!

Because of the large number of subscribers, visitors ARE strictly 'by arrangement'!

Agree with Janet George - we are spoilt and have some of the best hunting country in England. Lots of grass and lots of jumping. Yes. there are alot of people on Saturdays, but weekdays are great fun too with less people. The whole country offers alot of jumping if you want it - hedges, walls and rails.

Some of the land you cover is gorgeous - especially Saturday meets. I only did Thursdays as it was local and Saturdays sometimes in the first half of the season. I remember a few meets off the top of my head which were my favourites I can reccomend if you have any in mind you're thinking of going to.

When I was out with them with my old work, there'd easily be 150+ out on a saturday. I loved it though, everyone was helpful and I gratefully was on a well seasoned hunter, so had some really good rides from my time with them - by the end of a season you'll guarantee you'll have got your confidence up and have jumped everything possible from timber, to stone walls, to ditches, through water, to hedges [albeit small ones or the 'serious' ones if you have a good horse].

I loved my time hunting with them. Had some of the best rides of my life!

I actually never had to wait for a fence hardly. Everyone just kept going on Saturdays and filed in...just keep a reasonable distance and you'll be fine. I preferred staying just a little further back from the front :)
