being fairly new to riding ive never been hunting and don't know how to go about getting involved or what is involved in it? would be gratefull if someone could explain their experiences. thanks

If you go into the "Hunting" section of the forum it has a fantastic post at the top with lots of great advice for people who want to have their first experiences out. You are best to go in there and have a good read

Have a look in the hunting forum, someone has just posted about newcomers week which would be a good place to start. Do you have your own horse?
I think if you have a sensible horse that you are confident and competent on then getting into hunting is fairly easy. My friends husband did his first season last year after starting riding in May and he absolutely amazed me. After a few times out he was at the front of the field jumping everything, but his mare was very experienced and looked after him/taught him the ropes.
Also visit http://www.mfha.org.uk/ to find out who the nearest hunts are and give the secretaries ring to find out what meets would be suitable for a first time and see if someone would be happy to nanny you. My first few times I stuck with one of the pony club mums who was more than happy to look after me even though I'm an adult!
There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this forum and it is a good place to learn about hunting etiquette. In my experience hunting is nothing like what I imagined, it isn't just about haring across the countryside jumping enormous hedges with my hunt there is normally quite a bit of standing around to catch your breath and I haven't yet come across an obstacle over 3ft. Everyone is normally very friendly and it is a great opportunity to meet new people, just make sure you are armed with something scrummy in your hip flask!

just noticed the hunting forum lol. Iv'e got a pony on loan 14.1h (i am an adult though). to be honest dont think i'll be trying it anytime soon but just wanted to know a bit more about if for the future...maybe, as it sounds quite fun. thanks
