HUNTING

i am based in north york and have been advised too take my pony hunting, he is brave on the x-country course however been on gallops with friends and as soon as someone starts cantering he is off at a gallop in order too win the race so too speak, i am worried he will do this on a hunt so was wondering if there are hunts without hounds and that would be a bit quieter than an average hunt in the season around lancashire/yorkshire/cheshire i am prepared too travell upto 2 hours for a good/safe hunting experience for both me and pony

anybody know of any good hunts?

If you want a hunt without hounds, why dont you try taking him on a pleasure/fun ride, not quite the same but it would give you a chance to see what hes like in the company of alot of other horses. There seems to be plenty on at the moment & usually a few over the winter as well.

Hi, i can sympathise with you as my old loan horse was the same. I was advised by a freind to gradualy build up the number of horses in the group so to speak, as when i first took the horse out for a hunt it blew her mind and she was an absolute horror was just far too much fun for her :D so we started small and did beach rides and fun rides which were easier for her to cope with. After a few of these she settled down and was then fine to hunt was really just practise, practise and to get her used to being ridden in a large group.

As for recomending a hunt i cant help there as im not in your area, maybe have a look online for your local hunt and contact them for advise regarding an easier day. I know here the local hunts do fun days with optional jumps and they are such good fun, for those who dont usually hunt :)

I thought that too - all the times are muddled up on the board - some said 10.54 when actual time was only 10.33!!!
Op would also suggest as above just to get used to being out with others. My daughter is bugging to go hunting (has never been & I know nothing about it!) but a friend of mine said her daughter went, for a 1st time, cubbing (is that right?!) & they had a 'nanny' who looked after the children. She loved it so I'm looking into that xx
