Hunts in Northumberland for a beginner

I have never hunted before and really want to give it a try. Unforunately my horse was just coming back in to work after injury in September so I missed the cubbing. Which of the Northumberland hunts would be best for a beginner?
The horse is now 20 but fit and has hunted a lot when he was younger but I'm a bit of a wimp. Finances are a bit stretched at the moment so would be after Christmas.
Also is a tweed jacket acceptable? My black jacket is a cheap polyester one and my tweed is much nicer and warmer.
Many thanks

Not from the area, so can't give specific advice - but from a quick Google search it looks as if you have a fair few packs to choose from. Take a look and why not give the hunt secretaries in the packs closest to you a call or an email and ask them?

I think that tweed is generally fine - with a coloured stock though, not a white one!

Hi Hacked off
Horse is liveried in Blyth so I was thinking of the Morpeth but someone had mentioned Tyndale are good for starting with and there is also Percy and West Percy as options.
Are all the caps similar? I think Morpeth is £75 plus £5 countryside alliance.

Think the Percy cap is cheaper .
Monday is a "quiet " day with the Percy a good day for a try out before trying a busy Saturday .
The secretary's email is on the website ,your tweed coat would be fine , pm me if you decide to come and we can try to meet up.

Ive only ever hunted with the Morpeth so can't really comment on the caps for the others, but if you're coming from Blyth, Morpeth would probably be the closest. We're a friendly bunch! We'll look after you :D Just give me a shout and i'll try and help with anything else. Also your tweed would be fine.

Thanks Goldenstar, that would be great. So nervous but if I don't take the chance on this horse I never will. :)

A Monday would be best there not the best meets but low key and quiet just to get the feel of it .
I have a green horse getting going he a complete plonker you would be nannying me !!!
Email the secretary Emma Howie if you are interested , Wednesday's are quieter than Saturday's but can be ' big ' days but the field is smaller than Saturday.

i can also vouch for the friendliness of the morpeth :)

i was out cubbing a few times with them this season and was made more than welcome ,my horse was being less than "helpful" the first time out and everyone was lovely ,trying to help me get through gates safely etc

i had a great time :D

The Tynedale are very friendly though it might well be a bit further than the Morpeth.

Again Mondays are generally cheaper £45 and quieter but are generally in further out country. The secretaries are incredibly helpful though and worth a ring.

Anyone know what the meets are like at Ring Kennels? I presume thats the hunt kennels just up from Meldon? guessing a Thursday may be quieter than a Saturday.

Sorry I don't know about your pack but I do know that when our meet card has "Ring Kennels" on it it means just that-ring the kennels to find out where the meet is closer to the date because it hasn't been formalised yet!

I mean, I could be wrong and you might actually have a Ring Kennels but I do remember making a fool out of myself asking lots of people whereabouts Ring Kennels was ;)

Ring kennels just means ring the kennels. Thursday will be a lot quieter than a Saturday, mind with the weather we've been having Saturdays have been quiet too. Do you have the meet card or the number for the kennels?

I have the meet card but there is a lot of meets down as Ring kennels so just presumed it was the hounds home and they started from there a lot. Face palm.:D

No not yet. Due to the ground I have had to postpone. Currently doing sun dances and hoping it will be drier towards the end of the month.
