I just was a bit rubbish at compromise and can cheerfully say I don't miss the guilty feeling of being a big disappointment as a wife. As a mother, I fared much better and bowed out of the commitments when they were all grown up. Life's OK, still friends with the OH and free to enjoy the horses on my terms without repercussions. Or snoring.

Having horses on DIY and at home = near divorce situation.

Having horses on part/full livery (even though I go every day) = marital harmony (more or less ?)

My OH is an animal lover but not what you would call "horsey" although he was a star when I was ill or pregnant and had horses at home.

I think we the horse obsessed - and I hold my hands up here - can sometimes forget that there is a balance to be struck within a relationship and if you don't have a horsey OH some accommodation has to be made for everyone's happiness.

Happy New Year all ?

Mine has novice level Hoover operating license, elementary washing machine operator level as can put in, machine on, and empty it too. Lacks finesse in the hanging it out dept tho. (He is only permitted to use 1 number cycle, anything else has to be authorised by me after an epic shrinking and colour running spree when I was away 20 yrs ago).
He will help garden, but is rubbish about clearing as he goes.
Usually comes with me about twice a year in the box to an event or something and will take out of focus film or photos, will hold a Fuzzy and perhaps hand me equipment but nothing else. He is not a fan of equines at all.
He can feed the cat and walk the dog (lockdown started that off as it got him out of the house and they both mooch steadily!)

Yes, he bloody snores tho! I like our bedroom, he wont use the spare room......

Mine does loads of stuff.
If something goes wrong with my wagon I ring him up.
He asks a few questions then diagnoses it. Then I ring the mechanics and give him a technical description of what's wrong and they think I know what I'm talking about.
He Hoover's.
He makes coffee and does the washing.
He is also a really kind bloke and I love him.
Sorry!

Mines great in the kitchen as well but wouldn't have a clue what a washing machine is, I showed him once but I'm sure he's forgotten, he does come to events with me but doesn't really enjoy them!

Mine is kind, he also does all the "technical/electrical" stuff, which includes the dishwasher, washing machine, bread maker, TV, emptying the hoover/bins, defrosting the freezer etc and anything IT related. He thinks I can't work the TV when he's not there, which is partially true as I have no idea which of the three remotes work what and just hit buttons until something comes on!

Tbf mine is very good too. Completely and utterly non horsey when we met and now can do most things. He can catch, rug, feed, groom and boot up. He will only fill haynets under absolute duress but I can't blame him, I hate that job! Also, he puts rugs on in a very strange way but they end up right eventually so I can't complain. He also checks the horse when I can't get there because of work and sends me a photo each time ?

Mine is great! Never moans about how much the horse costs, encouraged me to get a new (expensive) lorry, regularly comes up with me to muck out or catch in. Grooms for me at competitions. OK, he does snore, but you know, I put up with that for all the rest!

To be fair mine is good. He cooks and he fixes things and occasionally cleans. He has sorted the horse for me when I was poorly too.

He may have to learn about how clean socks arrive like Adorable Alice suggested though.

Like MP, I do wish that just once I could come downstairs to a cup of tea in the morning instead of it always being me that’s fed the dogs, emptied the dishwasher AND made his breakfast... that’s only because he can’t haul himself out of bed and can’t multitask when he does

Mine’s been an absolute dream, I have to confess - especially as I’ve recently been going through MH problems (horse, work, and lockdown-related), and before that, physical problems from an injury. I don’t think I could’ve managed 2020 without him, to be honest - also, the horse and the cat seem to prefer him over me, a lot of the time!

That said, he does make me tea in the mornings (he’s a morning person, I’m not), feed the cat, and is very apologetic when I angrily wake him up over his snoring..

This is so lovely ?

Ha ha, i'm reading this at 02:22 because i'm trying not to smother my snoring husband with a pillow (new year's resolution)!
Having said that, i'm another lucky one. Mine cooks 90% of the time, and does his fair share of cleaning. He is also outwitted by the duvet cover!
Haha! Mine is gurgling away and I’m composing myself so I don’t throttle him!! But you are so right about appreciating the good things, eg cooking. I will put my ear plugs in and remind myself of his glorious cooking abilities.... but urghhhhhhh I must be a terrible person - I just want to throttle him with the pillow!! I will think calm thoughts...

I keep a variety of pets but a husband isn't one of them. I wouldn't know how often I had to walk it or feed it, and quite frankly I find them a bit noisy and demanding plus I don't know how big a cagevyou need for one..??
If I want something to answer me back and have tantrums I have parrots for that.
I'm quite happy being single lol.

I'm pretty sure I will be alone in this, but I actually quite like the snoring - I find it soothing (good job really, mine never doesn't snore)

My OH is a tad reluctant around the horses but to be fair, it is his day job so I do try to go easy on him! He is a great rider and fantastic at handling them when they’re high as kites though so useful in an emergency! The domestic training is a work in progress ?

Me too, great thread. Esp at night when they are snoring (quietly at least) next to you.
Mine is great too, does pretty much everything for the horses, and on his days off, also walks the dogs, does All the outdoor work and brings me breakfast in bed!
