Can anyone answer this for me? More a vet question so will be calling them too but if anyone had any dealings please let me know?
Friends bitch has a joint problem. Vet said to her that injecting hyaluronic acid into it would help her (in theory) - it is supposedly done a lot in the horses.
Has anyone heard of it or had a horse/dog done this way? Did it help?

It is often injected alongside steroids into horses' joints if there is mild joint pain (eg. early arthritic changes.) I think more research needs to be done to conclusively prove it reduces joint pain when injected on its own, but it certainly won't do harm and lots of experts would argue it does a good job.

Thanks have passed on info

Next question
Are the injections the same as human ones and the dosage used or different please? Also was it done at normal vet or specialist

It is injected into the joint so I would have an equine specialist even though a large animal vet should be able to do it. I have had this done on my mare alongside steroids and I can say that the effect lasted must longer withe HA but that of course could simply be some kind of coincidence.
