My poor horse has been to hospital for tests in the ongoing quest to find out why he has an ongoing dry cough. He is 6 and still has some hyperplasia, although this was not inflamed and didn't concern the vet too much. Whilst there I thought there had been a breakthrough when the vet found a small granulosa on his vocal cord area of the larynx, which turned out to be some further hyperplasia when tested. This was removed using a laser and he was kept there for three days to recover. I brought him home and turned him out as instructed. He had steroid inhaler for 2 weeks, twice a day to help with the inflamation from the procedure, and 2 weeks off work. My vet has just been out to carry out an endoscope with the aim of giving me the all clear to bring my lovely boy back into work. Unfortunately it appears to have all gone horribly wrong again. The endoscope has revealed that his hyperplasia is now angry and inflamed, and the bit that was removed appears to be very much present. All in all it is worse than before. I've been given 14 days antibiotics for him as my vet suspects he may be harbouring an infection, hence the flair up, but I'm devastated. I wondered if anyone else has experienced anything like this? I really worried I am going to end up retiring him at 6 or losing him. I'd really appreciate anyone else's experiences with this, good or bad. Thanks.
