Hi,has anyone who suffers with confidence issues with their horse had hypnotherary, i had an accident about 3 years ago not really serious but enough to knock my confidence so have only ridden him a few times since,i have a couple of sharers so they ride him but i would love to ride again but as soon as i get on him all i think is "what if this happens ect"i was going to try hypnotherapy as i have tried everything else any ideas ?? thanks

i tried it after the same issues as yourself, it is not a quick fix.
she even asked if i was overhorsed-i wasnt, just something she had to ask.
i went several times and it did and did not work?
she gave me the best bit of advice- take it very slowly, get on- take a few steps get off, gradually building it up. do not get on and go for a hack etc from day one. baby steps. it seriously worked for me i was out jumping again within 4 months all be it 2ft classes!! :) good luck x

I have been hypnotised but not for anything to do with horses. It was for help in a really big exam that I was getting really stressed about.
It def helped me, I think you have to believe that it is going to help you though. Maybe Im just really suggestable!!

No matter if it helped or not it was a really lovely, relaxing and enjoyable experience that I would reccomend to anyone :)

thanks fot that i did get on him last sunday but i made the mistake of trying to go round the block my freind walked beside me and he was as good as gold, his problem is if i get on him and go for a walk up the track and then turn for home he then canters on the spot and just get over excited so its easier to go round the block, thing is he is a great horse i just wish i could get over my nerves

this is interesting

I would recomend it. Its not a quick fix, you have to practice but it does work if you practice with visualisation techniques, breathing, etc that you will learn. A good therapist will explain that there is a perfectly natural explanation for your lack of confidence and help you retrain your brain. You will learn to stop the what ifs and positivity breeds positivity, so you need to take small steps to achieve.

Try it- it worked for me!

I have had it for confidence issues riding and general anxiety which was getting out of control. I was really cynical about it, but I had to try something. I only had two sessions, one was chatting about my nerves and getting to understand how my head works and how I then generate the nerves myself, qed I am in control of my emotions. Even just that one session was really helpful as I found understanding the secret behind my nerves helped take the power out of them. I also got a couple of exercies which I still use but are needed less and less. On the second session I was hypontised - just sat in a lovely comfy chair and had a bit of a doze! I was very suprised how effective it was, and it has helped my confidence iin other areas of my life too. I would def recommend. Mine did an initial session free so you can chat, see if you get on with them and discsuss what you hope to acheive and what they can help with - I would def recommend going to someone who does this otherwise you might find you can't chat easily to them and I think you really wouldn't get some much out of it then. Try and get a recommendation too if you can.
Good luck!!

I completely lost my confidence following a riding accident in 2007 where my horse somersaulted and landed on me. When it came to jumping I wouldnt go over a pole on the floor!! :(
I read a review in a magazine about these and asked for the jumping with confidence one last christmas they are FANTASTIC! and have made a big difference I still regularly listen to them when I go to sleep (they're really good for helping you get to sleep especially if you're stressed!) or before a competition :)
And best of all - it's only a small one off payment for the CD and you can listen to them again and again!! And they have them for most disciplines, even hacking!

Now I'm back to my old self and compete in open XC and am just about to affiliate BS :)
It's a contraversial subject but it can't hurt to give it a go? :)
give them a try :)

My daughter went to see a lady who specialises in hypnosis and also in NLP (neuro linguistic programming) for her severe jumping nerves. We had some success but it seemed to 'wear off' after a while - perhaps because my daughter was too young to 'own it' as the lady said. She used more NLP techniques than hypno stuff and I do think there is something to be said for it, but I don't think it is a cure all, and certainly not a quick fix. Oh wouldn't it be lovely to be put into a trance and then with a click of the fingers you are a fearless rider! Sadly not possible, but do look into the NLP stuff, I do rate that.

I had severe confidence issues for ages and tried everything NLP, Hypnotherepy, etc, etc. To be honest though the thing that helped the most was finding a really good RWYM instructor ... they specialise in giving you a really secure seat that works with the horse. I did a 4 day course a month a go and the change in my confidence has been amazing and for the first time in years I am really enjoying my riding. If i find myself feeling insecure I just follow the rules for making my seat the most secure it can be and that gives me something to think about rather than panicing.

I think if you loose your confidence you naturally veer towards a defensive seat - which ironically is less secure. I think there are several good RWYM instructors around, but in you PM me can give you a couple of contacts!!
