Hi, I know this shouldn't really be here but I posted in the soapbox and didn't get a response. So I thought I would try it here;

Has anyone been hypnotised on here? If so what was it for and did you think that it helped?
I'm thinking of being hypnotized but I find the idea quite daunting.

Once, as a subject in a demo of hypnosis for a physiology lecture by a medic who was also a qualified clinical hypnotist. I think he got my pulse rate and blood pressure to change, but to be honest I can't remember an awful lot of what happened apart from going to the front and being sat down. I do remember feeling very relaxed by the whole thing.

The second time was a personal demo by the then Chairman of the Scottish Branch of the British Society of Experimental and Clinical Hypnosis - many years ago. He put my arm and hand to sleep and stuck a sterile needle through a big pinch of skin on the back of my hand. I felt a slight "tugging" but no pain whatsoever. I was awake and aware the whole time, and again nice and relaxed. It wasn't scary at all - more like fun, and very interesting to discover what the human mind is capable of.

Sorry that doesn't really answer your question as I have never been hypnotised as a help or cure for a condition. I don't think it's anything to be scared of though!

Yes! I have and its not daunting at all, very relaxing in fact. I had a mare that used to spin and rear when traffic passed her. I found myself getting tense with traffic on my gelding and he was feeling it and reacting. I found the hypnotherapy stopped my anxiety altogether.

Thanks for the replies.
Lionman can you tell me any more, like how many sessions you had/how long for and how long ago it was?

I have been a number of times, first of all for my weight, it did not help at all tbh, it was done over a number of sessions, think it was 6 or 7, then had it done again for a different reason, would not recommend past life regression, it really is not for the faint hearted

Long long time ago I gave up smoking with the aid of hypnotherapy. To this day I'm not sure whether it was the hypnosis that worked, or the fact that it cost me a weeks wages, and I sure as hell wasn't going to just throw it away. 25 years later I still can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke though.

Yes, twice very badly. My confidence did improve briefly and I think I was unlucky with the hypnotists. One was really pervy and one just ended up going somewhere she really shouldnt have but that's the risk I suppose. I would probably be a bit too direct and assertive for them though.
