Hannah has never been a good traveller; she sweats up a lot and she would never even load before Richard Maxwell came up and worked with her.
I got everything ready, armed myself with the pressure halter and went to load her... I should not have worried, she marched straight in and started munching on her hay without any hesitation (she never used to eat when she travelled before being put in foal). She never shouted, moved or made a commotion when we set off.
When we got to Croft, we lowered the ramp and although she had sweated a bit, she was no where near as bad as she has been in the past. She is usually literally dripping with sweat when we get somewhere So I was absolutely thrilled with how well she has travelled, it is probably the best she has ever travelled!
I tacked her up (with Andy's help as my neck felt as though it was aching a bit) and then jumped on and made my way over to the arena. She was very spooky at first, but settled quite quickly and Jo asked to see me working her. Immediately, my balance was an issue, caused by my stirrups being too long So they were put up a hole and Jo worked us very hard doing dozens of transitions which really got Hannah's shoulders up.
We then worked lots on her leg yielding as I allow her to go sideways without going forwards enough and by the end she was really starting to move sideways in a consistent rhythm.
We finished with some canter transitions... Hannah was absolutely fantastic and still felt ready to go when we finished (I did not!!!) I was really pleased with how she worked and have lots of work to do with her this week now I have a bit more direction. Jo said she was a nice mare who is very forwards and willing to work. Riding her today reminded me of how she used to feel doing the Elementary work
I can't wait to take her out competing next week now... just to see how she gets on
She is now tucked up in her bed munching on her tea... she travelled back even better than she travelled there so I could not have asked for anything more from her
