well my last one was she had to have really good quality hay otherwise she wouldnt eat it, but the boy I have now is the opposite.

I used most of my winter hay up during end of sept/oct/beg Nov as had most of them at home waiting for grass to grow, which it did thankfully. I tend to keep them out as much as possible but with this rain we have had for the last month my big lad has had enough and was looking a little depressed this week, so bought him in tonight and thought would give shetties a rest of it too, went and by 2 bales of really good hay yesterday at £6 a bale and he has hardly touched it, so gave him a few slices of the other hay (not so good paid £3.50 a bale) and he is tucking into it like there is no tomorrow.

Am so glad I only bought 2 bales as was going to get 100 delivered as they ate it no problem last year, so now have to go see if normal supplier has any left (which is unlikely) or search elsewhere.

Maybe this is telling me that I need to order double the amount from normal supplier next year just need to find somewhere to store the rest. But at least my horse has proved he is not a money grabbing feeding machine lol.

My TB eats absolutely anything and everything and is living out quite happily 24/7 - its nice to know that they're not all high maintenance (all the time anyway

Mine has to be stopped from picking the pooey bits left in other peoples wheelbarrow, eats his bed and anything else he can get his teeth into.
And this is after munching his way through a pile of haylage so big he can barely see over the top.

Must admit I amazed with my boy,he is so easy to keep (thought with being an ex racer he would be really fussy), when I got him just over a year ago he was being feed bluechip but found he was still a little on the thin side so put him of d&h build up and he has done wonders on that. So glad he is not such a high maintenance horse as my last one as she nearly broke the bank.

Totally agree with the other posters. Our TB is as tough as old boots but does like his stable at night. Only on pony nuts, formula4feet and a few carrots with ad lib hay at night as he is not doing much but he is really thriving.
