Just got dog back from foster/holiday home. - He is too thin, I should be taking him to the vet to weigh him.
OK hes has lost weight, and I have been giving him extra. I was ordered not to let him get fat, and was given instructions on what and what amount he was being fed when I took him on, (he subsequently had the runs for a while which hasnt helped)
He needs a trim. - His ears lobes and hair between his paws are less than quarter of an inch long
Have I been letting him wee on his lead. Thought this meant actually peeing on his lead, no means whilst he is on his lead. - Well yes, didnt know it wasnt allowed !
Why am I walking my other dog separately at times - he is old and a bit idle, also a lot smaller than first dog. This is also wrong.
Why am I allowing my old dog to sit in the back seat of the car - He sometimes growls at the other one if they are both in the back and dont want a fight when Im driving. This is also wrong, there is not enough room for them to fight !
.
I am absolutely seething, so I am ranting on here instead of phoning her up and telling her to have the dog back if she thinks Im so crap. Spoilt what was a nice few days holiday

were these the people that passed on a dog with untreated mange and raw patches of skin?

dont blame you for being cross and upset-not many would have taken him on and kept him with so many issues. And why on earth can't dogs pee on the lead?!

and BREATHE!!!!!!!!! you are obviously very upset by the look of your post....the only thing that may need sorting out is why he is thin so a trip to the vets may be worthwhile to rule out any problems. its nothing to do with anyone else if you want to walk dogs separately, or have them separated in the car, don't quite understand the weeing on the lead, when is he supposed to wee then? sounds like you need to find a different holiday home for him so you can really enjoy your holiday...hope you feel a bit calmer now you have ranted , I would feel exactly the same if someone questioned everything I was doing....

Me neither!

Or me! My very whippety lurcher can drop weight literally before your eyes. If he went into a foster/holiday home then I would expect him to drop a bit as hes also a princess and cant tolerate change. We've never had to take him to the vet to be weighed, we feed him by eye. But for the life of me I cannot work out who owns this dog?!

y

So let me get this straight - one has to let The dog off his lead to Pee??

Me thinks I would be telling said home to jog on!

Re the weight - I used to have a client who had a schnauzer that once it was neutered the vet had said to her to be careful to not let him get too fat. She was very very diligent and the dog actually got too thin. It happens, so don't beat yourself up.

About the other stuff, sounds like the former fosterer is a nutter. Sorry, but there are many times it's useful for a dog to toilet while on lead - I take my dogs up and down the country via the motorway and stop at services. No way on this earth would I let my dogs off lead to pee in a setting like that. And yes dogs can and do fight in confined spaces, perhaps more inclination to do so. All the other stuff is just silly.

But agree with the other post about getting to the vet to make sure the weight thing isn't a sign of any underlying health issue.

A working dog should not pee except on command, for field trials amd so on, they are penalised. A dog sniffing and cocking its leg would be sent home.
There are many reasons I don't FT!

Clodagh, he is an Ex working dog! However I cant see the problem with a pet.
Re the weight, he has dropped weight because he obviously needs more food than I was instructed to give him ! I personally hadn't noticed he had lost much as he was very lean when he came. My other dog has put on weight in four days at his holiday home and I can see that straight away. I obviously just haven't got my eye in with this dog yet.
He wont be going back there, it was because I had already got my original dog booked in to a private home that only takes in one dog.
Im afraid if the fosterer doesn't back off I will be sending him back to her, unfortunately dog not being signed over to me until a 6 month trial.
I feel calmer in the light of morning!

He obviously isn't a top FT dog or she wouldn't be giving him away. Like you, what difference does it make to a pet. Stupid woman, I think you are right in thinking she has to back off or she can have him back. It is so sad as you invest time, money and emotion in them to have it thrown back in your face.
