Or so I am being accused.

All because I bought something off eBay UK, from a UK registered eBay seller, who stated both they and the item I was to buy, were located in London, U.K. The item arrived today, from Hong Kong - with a Chinese plug and malfunctioning. When I try to contact the Seller I find their registered eBay address is non-existent and their telephone number puts me through to a womanswear shop where they've never heard of the seller. Soooo, I immediately raised a dispute via PayPal asking them to obtain the Seller's UK address so I may return the item and obtain a full refund.

I am now receiving emails directly from the Seller's hotmail account, swearing at me, calling me a racist??? and telling me they wont give me my money back unless I apologise.

Sorry, not horsey I know but I'm fuming and feel very affronted. Please God, tell me I am not loosing my mind? I'm £100 out of pocket, have a duff item and am now receiving email abuse. It worries me too, that this person has my home address.

Well yeah, I must admit I was concerned when I was emailed the Seller's 'Contact Details' by eBay and realised they weren't genuine.

I've completed the form eBay ask you to, to report false member's details; And am waiting to hear back from PayPal regarding getting my money back. I am hoping PayPal will be able to supply me with a UK address for the seller, so I can return the item. I know they will expect me to do that before they will refund my PP payment. What I object to is being expected to return the item at my own cost, using a method which provides PayPal with a signature on delivery.

If I have to return the item to HK that is going to be potentially expensive, and not to mention the difficulty in obtaining the copy of actual delivery signature from the Hong Kong postal service. It takes months. I am going to end up out of pocket whatever happens

Keep hammering away at e-bay to sort it out and return your money. I am sure there are other angry purchasers out there too. Being accused of being a racist is most unpleasant and one can only assume that the seller is using this tactic because it is such a sensitive issue, because it makes no sense at all otherwise. Do forward their emails on to e-bay with your dispute number.

Alternatively - would they refund you if you DID apologise for being a racist, one wonders? I doubt it.

I have no experience with this sort of thing I'm afraid, but my brother found paypal extremely helpful when someone hacked his ebay account and spent £300 having camera equipment shipped over from america!

Despite paying by debit card and not a credit card, (which I've heard is more secure and you've got more chance of getting money back if things go wrong) he was refunded the whoe amount.

Hope they can help you too, those emails sound appaling!

Marvellous, just got the following email to my hotmail account from the seller.

Dear ***-******,

i dont need your thanks. you need to apologise .you will lose in case paypal will resolve the issue between us, choice is yours and i will delay this matter as long as i can and you will get your refund after one month. apologise and it can be done within 48 hours and money in your account. let me know. if you dont accept my proposal then pls dont email me and talk to paypal.

[I'd emailed via eBay, to asked for a return address. The 'thank you' was what I politely ended my request with.]

Jeepers, ever wished you'd not bought something online?

How do they know you are not Chinese living here? Why are they calling you racist. I get fed up of hearing this excuse all the time. Sorry for my little rant. I won't use ebay to buy anything although my daughters ex did sell something for us on there.

I'd keep on at ebay and paypal and I wish you all the luck in the world. Let me know how you get on

Eeeeek, I just read the end of the FIRST email they sent. I was initially sent 3 in one go and was rather mind boggled at the content to read the first one properly.

Ummmm.... is that a veiled threat? Kind of a weird thing to type to someone isn't it?

What is the bizarre obsession they have with racism and why MUST you confess to it?

TBH, you now have it in an email you can forward to ebay and Paypal that the seller is prepared to give a refund but they are asking for ridiculous terms.

Hi
I was selling my mamas and papas pram on ebay and i got a question from a buyer asking this that and the next thing and i answered all properly.

He/they also asked the question as to what colour it was as i had stated it was mocha colour and he said the pictures looked blue i said it is brow/mocha colour. I got loads of abusive e-mails with foul language so i took it up with ebay.
And they asked me to copy and paste the email.

i will go and try find the link again.

ETS
i found a link in ebay help
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/report-trading.html

I hope this helps

Its nonsense, ignore the emails. Just keep plugging away at Paypal. Do NOT "apologise" to get the money quicker. I promise you, if you do, they will refund you most likely from a stolen credit card, and then the money will be clawed back from your account.

Tell them that since they advertised the item as being located in the UK, they must give you a UK address to which you can return the item.

I recently had to deal with a chinese company after buying something on ebay (having been lead to believe it was a UK company) but fortunately it was resolved very quickly and politely.

They are clearly threatening and slandering you (or is it liable if its in print). Either way I'd email them back to say that under those circumstances you have now contacted the police who and forwarded this to both ebay and paypal. I'm sure they won't care but it may stop the nasty emails from them and show that your not gong to be threatened or frightened by their behaviour. That way there is a better chance of them realising your prepared to take this all the way and they could settle with you quicker.

Just to play devils advocate - I take it your initial emails didn't refer to slitty eyes or anything???

No

Actually, I hadn't sent them any emails. The rude emails from them started when PayPal contacted them. The only single communication I have had with them is through the eBay messaging system, when I emailed them to ask for their return address so I could return the faulty item.

I've now contacted PayPal and they have been really helpful. They've only got a partial address on file for the seller too, but have told me to send the item back to that address regardless. The address is..... 22 London and a post code. No name. Apparently as long as I send it back by Recorded Delivery, even an attempted delivery to the 'on file address' will be sufficient to get my money back. My son has just left for the Post Office to catch tonight's post.....

22 London and the Postcode is enough for the post office to deliver.

In fact just the number and postcode is.

You can find the right address if you go on the post office site

Don't give up! They are hoping that you just go away and you will be playing their game by giving in.
Been ages since I have used Ebay but have you complained to Ebay aswell?

Thanks everyone

Must admit to feeling better after having had my dinner and a large mug of coffee. My poor son ran all the way to the post office earlier, only to find it closed. Of course it's half-day on Wednesdays isn't it. Duh!

I'll get the package into the Post Office tomorrow morning and would hope PayPal will have the delivery confirmation by Saturday. Fingers crossed I get my money back and never hear from that horrible eBayer ever again.

I'm still fuming that they threw the 'racist card' at me. I'm outraged at that accusation. Jeeze, I dont even know their name, let alone what nationality or colour they are. Who cares? I just want a fully functioning item OR my money back! Nowt else comes into it.

* And breath *

i wouldnt apologise, by you doing so, you are therefore admitting you are one at the same time.

Stick the disputes in through paypal and ebay and you should get your money back.
Item not as described or faulty would be fine

Just got an email from eBay saying my seller's account had been closed. I can no longer find the listing I bought from, on the eBay site.

I posted back the item last Thursday by First Class Recorded Delivery but the Royal Mail website shows it as having not yet been delivered. If it's a fake address and doesn't end up being delivered, I wonder how PayPal proceed. I am also worried the Seller might ensure they do not have funds available for PP to refund me. I expect the seller is pretty P'ed off with me ATM

If there is money in the seller's pay pal account then i would imagine pay pal would suspend it being that seller can not withdraw money or transfer.if you put a return address on the item you sent back then you will receive it back to you.

Returned to sender.

I would imagine that your one of many many people who are peed off with this person.

As for the emails, they are obviously panicking and thats what the rather amusingly pathetic veiled threats are!

"give you pain??" or whatever it said, well you already have a pain........in the backside!!!!

Its probably some jumped up zitty little teenager trying to pull a fast one on you.

Even if you dont get your money back (which I hope you do), at least you have stopped them doing it to someone else.

Just a follow up to say this Seller's account has been closed by eBay, and PayPal successfully refunded me my money. A result!

An added bonus (I suppose) is that Royal Mail are in the process of returning the item to me, too. Unsurprisingly they weren't able to deliver the item to the address given to me by PayPal. Having made two unsuccessful attempts to deliver the parcel to the address given and get a signature, they are returning it back to the the sender.

And so far..... no one's tried to assault me when I veture out and I have received any ticking parcels....
