Are the fields next door to each other? Could you make a gateway through rather than have to go onto the road? Just to put the other side of the argument, I was held up for 25 minutes a few weeks ago, coming back home in the almost dark along the mountain road which is just a tiny narrow single track lane. Some dork was winching a humungus container from the road into his horse's field. The mountain road is hardly used at all but by the time this dork had finished pratting about, he had a queue of about 12 drivers stacked up either side of him and even after he'd finished it took ages for us all to sort out taking turns and passing and so on. The point to this is that it was illegal and the guy should have notified the authorities and put up "road closed" signs. If emergency vehicles had needed to get through, they couldn't. Just a thought.
Box of frogs, I see what you are getting at, but it took us about 4 mins at the most to get the horses moved. Some drivers couldn't wait this long and decided to turn back and use the main road, which is designed for that volume of traffic. I think it was just sheer ignorance rather than anything else. Emergency services could use the main road, they are all linked.
I would certainly not use the road if I didn't have to,but unfortunately this particular field is the other side of a river, and this is the only access.
Criket alicat - that sounds like an extremely stressful day. I hope your youngsters don't remember their bad experience the next time they meet a car.
I'm only being nosey here, but where abouts are you in NI?? I live in South Down and have found the drivers to be remarkably good (odd idiot but only in passing a bit quick - no revving/bad language etc). I am guessing you live a lot closer to Belfast maybe? On a Sunday morning I would even hack on our local A road if it was dry and not windy.
