:mad:I am fuming...
I just went down to the horses as the sun has miraculously come out and I thought i'd take little one's rug off and put bigger one in a thinner rug.
When I get there I see that there is a HUGE bonfire in the field... and I mean huge. Around the fire are big piles logs and masses of spikey branches. its taking up a very large area, about 20x20.
I totally lost it, 4 men and 3 chainsaws and 3 tractors and god knows what else (which were all outside the field but i have just heard that they took my fence (which is post and rail) down to get their bloody stuff in there)
I am so angry.
little one seemed fine but my bigger one had obviously been terrified and had completely sweated up (now im worried about her catching a chill).
I've moved them out of the field where the bonfire is but they are still near by, probably choaking now on all that smoke.
When I was moving them the men went for their "lunch break" so I never got a chance to shout at them. im so angry!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am I over reacting? Has this happened to anyone else?

Sorry - need a bit more background really - is it your field? If not did YO give these guys permission?

Did they just break into your field through the fences without anyone's permission?

If the answer to the above is Yes, No then Yes - then YES - I would be bloody fuming!

Not overreacting at all!

Who owns the field / organised the bonfire and workmen? I'd have a strong word with them, it may not be the workmen's fault at all in that they may have been told to get on with it. No harm is speaking to them as 'calmly' as you can and explain the issues with horses being the field, especially as you want assurance that when they leave for the day they'll make sure everything is secure and safe for your horses.

Just the sort of fright and worry you could do without I'm sure.

I'd be bloody fuming, assuming your YO gave permission for them to be in there, your YO should have let you know so you could move the horses, i'd be having a word.

ETA: What kind of idiot lets people build a bonfire in a field of horses!?

Bit short of information, is it your field? But even if I rented it, I'd be fuming and complaining to the person I rented from.

I think I might just explode if I were you. Who on earth gave these men permission to make a bonfire in a field with horses?!

Yes, I would be very annoyed too but like others have said. Who gave permission? Is it your field? If the men didn;t obtain permission from anybody I would kick up a right stink! If they did, then go and get cross with whoever did.

Not sure who field it is but a few things you need to find out, who is going to be responsible for making sure the fence is put back up and is secure enough if your horses rub on it.
Also who is repsonsible for making sure the fire is completely out, or you have the chance of nosey horses burning themselves.
Furious does not even come close to describing how i would be feeling

If the field is your property, you can sue big time as trespass for damages specially post and rail fencing. If you rent then the landlord should have informed you before hand and I think several weeks notice that they were haveing work done.

Wouldn't bother me TBH, (unless, it was done without landowners permission.) At various livery yards we've had bonfires, diggers felling trees (cob helped them to unload the bucket:o ), workmen digging trenches to lay water pipes, quad bikes, farmers' son harrowing the field at a landspeed record, ferret men with nets, and stray cattle.
My horses love in-field entertainment. Sure your horses will soon settle down and annoy the workmen, like mine do.
Good point about ensuring the embers are cooled, particularly in this cold weather.
