Got down the yard this morn and as i drove past my field there was a rail broken. thought thats odd she cant lean on it as the fence in front is electrified...
someone has stolen my brand new fencer and battery!! this happened last year round our way. I am absolutley furious!!! thats over £100 worth of kit less than a week old knicked! and they took my head collar! they have climbed over two locked gates!! im going to email horsewatch as this happened last year and looks like it could be a regular thing this year. they arnt exactly cheap! im expecting to see it on ebay at some point or in someones field! well it flashes blue and the battery is bright red so not exactly hard to miss. im sooooo angry. if i find out who it is.......

and breathe

Some cretin has walked up the 200yard private track to my private field with no footpaths on it and cut all my sheep net fencing - just the bottom strand - so it's still electric but is not effective as it can't be pulled tight and they go underneath it. Nearly £100 quid a roll. Six rolls of it. Not a happy girl.

Aww, sorry to hear that, that's pants!

Someone at my old yard has had a similar thing happen to her and the yard is in the middle of a 5000 acre forest, one road in and out and the charger was right at the back of the field. Can't stand thieves, total scum who deserve to be hit repeatably with a no.9 shovel :(

I would be angry too. A friend of mine had several new rambo rugs stolen from her horses backs when they were turned out, since then I have scrawled my horses names in permenant marker all over mine to put people off takeing them. I can only sympathise and suggest that you scratch or mark any replacement equipment to put them off returning as they might do.

iv just text my friend who is a pcso on horsewatch to see what she says. i might paint my next one red to put them off! im going to make some signs and laminate them and put up fake cctv. we were going to do that last year but never got round to it. better late than never!

Get some Smartwater and paint it on all your equipment. That way they can be identified as having handled your property, Take a look at www.smartwater.com.

Have all your tack postcoded so that it can be identified if stolen.

Postcode the roof of horsebooxes and trailers in large lettering so that they can be identified.

And most important of all have your horses freezemarked on their shoulder so that they can be identified.

:( :( :( I know how you feel - it's happened three times to us

This time we have got a hefty knife and engraved our post code in large letters onto both pieces. So far, so good but who knows if it will work?

I'm really sorry this has happened to you - it makes me so mad because it's such an unnecessary expense which could go on something else.

We have had a spate of energiser thefts this way. So much so someone has posted a warning on preloved.
Perhaps concoct some kind of lockable metal box to house the unit in?

I know how you feel as i have had stuff nicked by some scum too. Makes me very angry. The police have managed to do nothing even though they 'think we know who it is' and took tyre marks and footprints.

That's awful :( :( Just be careful - there was a note in our local tack shop saying someone had replaced their recently stolen electric fence kit and the replacement stuff got taken too.

My husband made me a security box for my energiser. Nothing I can do about the fencing/posts. The box is made of metal, lockable obviously. Inside he made a hole in the bottom and we got one of those dog tie things, looks like a giant corkscrew and screwed that into the ground so it can't be picked up. It's big enough to put both the battery and the energiser inside.
He has said he can make it so the whole box is live!! We haven't gone quite that far as yet tempting though it is lol.
You can get metal ammunition boxes from army surplus stores. Might be worth investigating to see if you can sort something similar out?

God, unbelievable - people will nick anything won't they!!! I bet it was the same people nicked it this year as last year (they'll have known you'll have got another by that time!). It seems this is quite common too. We have one and (touch wood) noone's filched it yet but I think marking all over in permanent marker or painting it some god awful colour (pink and stripey maybe!) and with your postcode may be the best sort of idea. Less likely anyone's going to want to buy it and not as easy to hide if used in a field nearby!

Oh no I am so sorry to hear that.

We have a lot of that going on around here so my battery and fence controller is in a shipping container next to the paddock... the gypsies have been around here a few times though... I've had dog leads and head collars stolen from the hooks outside my front door (have better guard dogs since so hopefully that won't happen again! ;))

Hope you find out who did it and give them what for...

i wouldnt have been so annoyed if they had taken my very old one thats at the back of the field but it was only about a week old. im off to get a new one. mum is having a look on her home insurance about contents away from home etc. every little helps i guess. im going to build some sort of contraption, even if it bolted to the floor!!

This is what we did to protect our electric box. We bought a mail box and put the electric box inside. it was then screwed to a fence and you turn it on and off by putting you hand through the slot. The wires and battery come out the bottom. The whole thing is then inside a green electric box/cabiniet we bought which is lockable and also bolted to the fence. So far it has worked, it of course did not save our rugs when they were nicked but I now postcode them in paint flousant (whoop!s My spelling!!) yellow paint from homebase. They look funky and you can see them in the dark. Seems to have worked this year.

That is so annoying!!!!! . We had that happen at a yard that I worked at. We had all the livery horses out in the field in the winter, they all had rugs on and the headcollars were on the gates, there must have been at least 16 horses out there. When we went to get them in there were no headcollars and every single rug was gone! the next day we went to turn the horses out and there were no gates on our fields!!!!. Then they stole electric fencing, post and rail fencing and the final staw was when they broke into the staff quarters and took tack and money. We never got anything back, even though we told the police who it would have been and gave discriptions of the men we saw coming out of the staff quarters.:mad::mad:

thats shocking cant stand people who cant leave other peoples things alone.

best thing to do is personalise anything of any value ie pen flowers all over it or your name scratch your name/postcode into the metal just make sure whatever you do its permanmant so that its less attractive to the thieving scumbags

hope you get some kind of result

We had twelve (flat, charged and on charge) batteries taken earlier this month from a locked store on the Farm - very annoying when you have 2,600 sheep to keep in with electric fences - very frustrating.

i have bought another and have 'personalised it' :-) i have also spray painted my rugs with my postcode. We are having a fake camera put up on a scafold pole to deter theives and trespassers. i have hidden it right across the otherside of the field in hedge and covered the light over with duck tape. i just need to find another battery for my other fencer now!

Bright yellow paint on rugs post code, have had 1 rug taken off mare, but as she's not good with strangers, someone I know, (like the person I bought it off) who she knows:(:(:(But some great ideas for battery charger and battery (dayglo green I think):D:D
