Hi there,
I'm going to be a new horse owner soon and just wanted to get some general advice about Livery costs (I'm looking at DIY Or Part Livery) and also, field rent in the Bromley Kent area.
SO, does anyone have the knowledge of any good places to enquire to, prices, quality of care etc..:D be greatful of any help.

Hi, I'm also going to be buying a horse soon (I hope!) and in Bromley so would be interested in any feedback! Have you looked at the Trf forum, someone asked about prices the other day.

Hello, welcome to the forum, sorry I can't help as I'm not from that area but just wanted to say hello, and have fun and good luck with your new horse :)

Oh no not yet but, as soon as I do I will put pics up! :D ! I've been browsing a few i'm looking to re home one from a shelter.
I've also applied for a course in Horse management so it's all really exciting.

How exciting & good luck finding your new horse!

I'm not Kent, but am the in South East & for DIY livery I am paying £135 a month in livery. Obviously with hay, feed, bedding, farrier, insurance on top. I also have assisted livery costs in additonal to my stable rent, as work and life commitments mean I can't be on solely DIY livery and rely on my yard manager or her staff at times.

Roughly, I budget for £200-£250 a month with 'extras' such as lessons or replacing any equipment on top of that. If that helps at all? I try not to think too hard or too long about the costs :D

Ah I see, that's not too bad I was hoping maybe to pay £150 a month and that got me debating about the idea of renting a field..instead..:confused:Don't know what is the best route to go down!

Around my area they would be like hen's teeth, but I would suggest trying tack shops or feed merchants? Or, asking your instructor (if you have one) or local riding club secretary? Asking farmer/land owners directly? By asking anyone and everyone and hope you get lucky, would be the short answer!

ETA: When I was looking, grass livery or renting a field would have worked out more expensive for me - so it may not be the cheapest option.

Also, what would you do for a companion?

Yeah I've made a big list of contacts for Monday - Pleanty of ringing around then! but, I thought i'd just like to ask sometimes as it's good if people can give you a rough guide so you know your not getting ripped off:p

Yes, I understand what you mean with the field option(price wise - I guess it could become more costly) and atleast at a livery yard there is more people to help look after your horse and I guess that would be a better choice in all fairness as I am a student and would be unavaliable some days! I will prob get another horse soon after..I want atleast 2!
