I am so upset! I bought it a while ago of a forum member and it has been lovely. I washed it today as I normally do on a 40 degree short wash using a wool detergent and when I went to take it out of the washer all the skin has torn leaving it almost in two halves and one side a huge hole in it!

It looks pretty bad

I could perhaps try to have it mended, but I think the sewing would then run along her back and of course I don't use these saddle cloths for show. They are because she has back problems. I think the seam would put pressure on her then

I am really upset about it. I wonder why it suddenly did that?

You havent got a hotpoint have you? Im sure that was the make. They were infamous a few years back for chewing clothes. You have to fill them to about half loads to be safe and then cant be certain.

The problem (I suspect) is the stitching rather than it tearing as sheepskin is hard to rip! As part of some research we took a lot of different sheepskin numnahs apart and were really surprised that almost all of them were made from a number of different sections sewn together. One half numnah was made up of a patchwork of 13 different bits of sheepskin! You cant tell because they use a special flat stitching

Hi
Yes it does look like the stitching has broken away at least on a good chunk of it but then the rest has torn. The worst part is that now it is almost dry the small bit of skin that has tore away from the rest has shrivelled and gone hard. I couldn't cut it out and sew the rest because it wouldn't fit together anymore.

It is so annoying as the majority is in as new condition

I would send it back to the manufacturer and ask them for a replacement. It shouldnt fall apart in so short a time - I am sure they will replace it without quibble (should do anyway!)
