GSDs. I have no idea why, given the neighbour’s bitch was soppy and gorgeous. She loved Zak and Bear, they loved her back. Maybe it’s because they’re bigger than I’m used to? I had to shout at one that started off all happy then tried to attack Brig back in the day. My cousin was attacked as a baby by a GSD. Saying that, we met a gorgeous 4 month old puppy today, everyone was polite and greeted nicely on leads. She was fluffy and fabulous.

I’m also scared of Akitas. I find them hard to read and I left the park when one owner cycled round with his dog following. One bit Brig and he ended up having a lot of flesh excised when pockets of infection popped up.

I’m normally a confident person, I don’t hold back if a dog is out of control, I will use my voice/body to block them. I have no idea why these breeds concern me. ?‍♀️

I am not "afraid" of any breed, but i would be more weary of any small breed dogs. The most agro i had in kennels was from the small pampered (and terrified of strangers) terrier types, or collies that people kept as cooped up house dogs. The big dogs were never a bother bar the St bernard who had never met another person bar its owner...that was a fun dog to leash, walk & groom.

I would be more aware of an akita though, purely because of the many times we were told never to interact with them.

Collies for me! My great-uncle had working collies when I was a kid who were... not kid friendly. The only irrational part is NOT being scared of the one who actually took a chunk out of my hamstring, we're friends now.

Proper irrational fear is bleach. Can't have it near me in case it gets in my eyes and I go blind. Put toilet bleach down leaning as far away as possible and not breathing. Also worked in a cement lab for 18 months and only used goggles when I would get shouted at for not doing it and used sunglasses to spray deosect but BLEACH AHH.

ETA: I cant go to the doctor or the dentist but those aren't fun ones.

Gagging thinking of it!!! If it can kill 99.9% of germs and bacteria why can't it kill me ?

It also transfers to chlorine, I go into a pool and my throat feels like its closing ?

Oh i adore that smell. I am not at all a clean freak, but i love the smell. Its not uncommon for me to use bleach to wash my hands for the smell.

Boxers.
When I was a kid my Dad had a workshop down a narrow alley. The alley was “guarded” by a large brindle Boxer called Dog. I don’t think Dog ever did anything scary, he was just very big (I was very small).

Sharpei’s. I get quite panicked if I see one when I’m out with the dogs (thankfully it happens once in a blue moon).

Totally irrational and no disrespect to the 600 lb plus people on tv but after seeing an episode where a lady quite unintentionally squashed a baby I have a stupid fear of a very large person falling on me! I don't know anyone that size, now how bloody silly is that? It was years ago but I still can't even watch the trailers for the programme.

I don’t think it’s irrational, seeing as I’ve been attacked by two over the years, but I steer clear of EBTs-I still bear the scars on my hand from being bitten in 2002.
I love geese!

I don't think I have any irrational fears of dogs but I hate dead things. I can't walk over dead animals incase they jump up and grab me. Just writing this has my hair standing on end!! I blame watching horror movies when I was younger!!

I met a Turkish Kangal yesterday while out walking with my dad and I have to say my instinct was to cross the road! He was actually very friendly and the owner told us that he got him from the Dogs Trust as he is an experienced dog owner with lots of land, but that he doesn't think we should be allowed them in the UK. The dog was MASSIVE!!

One particular cocker spaniel. She's a walking cack attack and she runs up to you to play but then gets scared and barks and runs away. Gorgeous dog and her owner is brilliant with her she's just super anxious and I can't read her at all. I've never met anything quite as vocal and I feel like it's a matter of time before I get bitten lol.

Out of interest, when she does get close to me I just stand there and let her sniff and don't attempt a pet or anything. Is that the right thing to do? I feel bad for ignoring her but I like my skin intact ?

I wouldn't even acknowledge that there's a dog there/would probably keep walking or whatever. I don't actually think the owner is brilliant/should be putting the dog or other people in this position TBH.

I'm not a big fan of Malis right now, I'm not scared of them, I'm just bored by all the hype and the issues that the poorly bred ones have and the owners who complain but never appear to have the time or inclination to do what needs to be done despite wanting/getting one in the first place. It just seems like constant hassle right now. End rant lol.

The dog I really don't like being around is a Caucasian/Ovcharka. It's just the size of them/how 'on the person' they can be.

me too, GSD and akitas. I’m definitely a very doggy person too and they do make me a bit nervous. I find them difficult to read. Not irrational!

It's not irrational, but I've become generally wary of many dog breeds since several of mine have been attacked and injured - by Staffies and a GSD. I grew up with GSD's and used to love them until one took a chunk out of my greyhound, and I thought another was going to attack me. I've also had another couple of scary incidents while walking my current dog so I'm very wary of them now. I think many of the breed don't have the best of temperaments. Probably like so many breeds now, too many are poorly bred, and owned by numpties who shouldn't own any dog, and certainly not a powerful guarding breed!

All the bull breeds really worry me when I'm walking my dog, especially Staffies as my dog and my mum's dog have been attacked by them. I've also come across dog aggressive English Bull Terriers, and French Bulldogs. Someone where I used to live owned two of what I'm sure we're really powerful Pit Bulls, my blood ran cold when I saw them when walking my dogs! The huge mastiffs scare me too.

Unfortunately all these incidents have made me less fond of dogs as a whole. I've thought I was going to be attacked by a Cocker Spaniel and a Labrador, so I know any breed has the potential to be unpredictable and aggressive, even ones that are usually very friendly to people. I'm a greyhound/sighthound person these days and they're invariably great with people, though I'm sure there's the occasional exception even amongst them.

Years ago we were out for the day and my toddler was bitten by a collie

The owner had said yes she’s fine in that airey way they do ??‍♀️My toddler did nothing to justify it .
However it was a nip and a graze and I guess the thing is that the larger bull breeds especially, would have done significantly more damage , which is why I give them a wide birth when out now . I also don’t like Akitas and Caucasian shepherds as they are often grumpy with my dogs when we meet .

frightened of Akitas and bull breeds as I have no doubt what they are capable of. The more they tend towards pit bull types the more worrying they are. Learnt very quickly about bull breeds when a staffie got hold of my horse's leg. The owner told me how friendly it was to his kids and it was. Just didn't seem quite so friendly locked onto my horse's leg with an owner that couldn't get it off.

Love geese (they are so funny chasing people) and turkeys, and totally adore cows even more than horses. (but you have to be able to read cows and respect them)

sneaky, fly, nervous but going to come and try and nip you farm collies just get my boot or the horse's hoof. Obedience trained collies are lovely.

Went to visit several scrapyards as part of my job. The gates were always locked, the owner hid round the corner for his bit of fun and the GSD guard dogs came charging out. Sadly they had chosen the one breed I was happy around. Those dogs however did break the ice for me many times once I got the owner talking about his dogs.

someone mentioned squashing a baby,, I don't have kids but I watch people walking along with a very young baby in a carrier on their front and wonder what would happen to the squashed baby if they tripped and fell. It just seems a potential danger.

I had a large friend in primary school and we were messing around play fighting at break and she fell and landed on my wrist and it broke ?

I've told everyone I don't want to be cremated when the time comes as I'm afraid of being burned alive! No worries that I'd be buried alive though so very odd.

Having never been a huge collie fan I didn’t know much about them before taking mine on. I was really surprised at the amount of people who were a bit nervous of her because collies are snappy! She was the loveliest dog and one of the only dogs I’d 100% have always sworn would never bite or snap at anyone ever. People, including my OH at first just didn’t believe me!
