We keep our horses at home, with land that is split into two fields and have now had to put a lock on the internal gate between the fields, as for the second time in a week, some idiot has come through and opened the gate! :( I am very cross, there are no footpaths through the land and we had shut the top field off to let it grow a bit. I was also hoping to work the Appy this afternoon but she was in a foul mood, having managed to get on the grass and wanting to return to it before her friends ate it all.
If I find out who it is that is doing this I am going to go and play in their garden, see how they like it! :D
Fairly pointless post , but I do feel a bit better now :D

If only it was! There is no way into the fields, except through our yard or over dry stone walls (which cost a fair bit to repair). We chain and lock the front gate and have now had to chain a gate from one of our fields to the other. There is no where to go for the people who are coming in!

its probably some animal lover who thinks aww poor horses all that lovely grass and they cant get to it. it happens quite alot over here by silly people who havent got a clue why its fenced off and that land has to be rested to get the best out of it. one of girls on our yard used to put a fly rug on in warm weather and it was always in the field on floor by the end of the day. we couldnt figure out how he was getting it off without ripping it until we caught some silly woman in the field taking it off
she accused us of being cruel etc. her face was a picture when we explained that the rug was breathable and was in no way making him hot and was actually benefiting him

Or a sign that says

"Tresspassers will be proceshooted" :D

I like your thinking there :D

And yes I think it is someone who knows the area well, we live in a small hamlet with no through roads, no shop etc, so apart from some dog walkers the people doing this are likely to live in one of the 40 or so houses here.

It may well be someone who thinks that the horses are on a bare paddock (they are :) ) and that they are doing them a favour, interfering ****wits!

I assume you know your gates are definitely being opened by people and there is no way your horses have managed to do it? I am sure you would know this and I guess it depends on the gates but beinge someone who has a horse who can manage to open most things I would be considering if it was possible. I find it strange someone would deliberately open a gate/leave a gate open if the field is not on a footpath and if the person has nothing to gain from letting the horses out.

Well given the Appy girls ability with most fastenings I see your pount ladyt25 :D But because of her abilities we make most fastnings Appy proof. Admittedly it wasn't as Appy proof as it is now, but I don't think it was her (she is always the first suspect!)

Poor Appy, I think her ears may be burning, but padlock gates and put up warning signs, inform police and put a letter in your local village magazine and if you don't have one, start one, you will be surprised how well they go down with the locals

I was going to ask this too after watching my friends cob deliberately open a chained gate by putting his foot through and shaking it til he managed to get the chain undone. Not only that, but he then went back and held it open for his friend the shetland to join him in the forbidden field!
