My 6 yr old daughter had 5 of her friends around today for a teddy bears picnic and inevitably they all wanted to see our two horses - my 15.1hh ex BE comp connemara cross and little 11.2hh rescue pony Jerry.

Sooo we bought them in and they had the coats brushed, their tails plaited, their hooves picked out and painted, then they were led and ridden round the fields by 6 very excited girls and 1 very bemused 4yr old boy and the horses were absolutely stars, it was like they knew they had to be extra careful where they put their feet. At one point they were being led trotting by 2 of the girls with another riding, all laughing and shouting, and had to endure lots of little people being lifted on and off their backs, running around etc and I was so proud of my wonderful horses. Even lovelier that when we let them back out into the field after lots more pats and cuddles they hung around the gate for ages like they really liked the attention.

I feel like I need a strong gin and tonic now and a lie down after spending the whole hour saying dont walk behind them, mind your feet, dont run and so on and so on. But 5 little girls 4 of which have never sat on a pony before all went home very excited and saying they love horses ....opppps - their parents arent going to be pleased with me!!!!

You better hide lol

What a lovely day they had,bet that beat Alton Towers and all the expensive treats.
You will be looking for 5 nice 11.2 's then :D

Sounds like they had a lovely time - well done :) I'm not sure I could have coped with that!!

I expect your ears to be burning when the Mums and Dads are cursing you later after they have been nagged for a pony all day!

On the other hand you could find that you have several extra "helpers" on a regular basis, making you regret ever introducing them to the joy of horses!

Sounds like they had a fab time though!

Good for you Jericho. Definitely a person after my own heart! Not having any kids myself, I do tend to indulge my little niece and nephew when I get to see them - and quite frequently they come accompanied by various little schoolfriends.

I too am proud to say that my horses (none of whom I would consider to be a particularly novice ride) are all absolute saints when there's little children involved. Somehow they seem to know that they must be on best behaviour when the wee humans come to visit, as even with kids clambering over their backs, they've never put a step wrong. (Now, an adult doing the same thing would be a completely different matter...)

Anyway Jericho, as far as I'm concerned, well done to you and your horses and, as narkymare says "sod the mums and dads".

I did a similar thing on sunday. We had a family do and my brother came with 3 of his 4 kids (wifey stayed at home with the fourth cos he was sooooo ill.....no-one quite sure what with!!!!!!). Anyhooo gave them all a ride on my beautiful 15hh boy and they all brushed cuddled fed both him and the baby who was as chilled as ever. kids all cried when they had to leave and made me promise they could come back soon. Do you think I'm popular....probably not.
